|
|
im going wake to wake HS 95% of the time, and getting close TS.
last night just before sunset i did my first surface 180, a BS surface 180 out in the flats. what a cool feeling. nailed the pass on my second try.
id like to try my first airborn 180. and would like tips.
switch or goofy? (my switch riding is scary)
w2w or single wake?
HS or TS?
BS or FS?
tips on how to actually pull off the thing without ripping my face off and teeth out? _________________

Practice FS surface 180's a few times out in the flats to get warmed up, then take it in for a 1-wake HS FS 180. Then do it w2w, then do it HS BS.
Keep the handle on the hip going in and move it to the other hip to initiate the turn. LEAVE IT ON THAT HIP. Practice this on your surface 180's, then keep doing it when you jump and you'll do fine. _________________

| Do it switch heelside that way you will be landing regular. I think tthat is the eaisiest 1st one to land. |

| The best thing that you can do is make sure to wait until you pop off the wake to spin the 180. It is basically a two part process. You have to pop off the wake then spin the 180 or you will have trouble. Also another thing that helped me was too make sure that I spun the 180 and looked to stomp the landing. I don't know how many times I just let the board hit the water and just slid out. |

First thing you have to do is get comfortable riding around switch. You should be able to carve back and forth comfortably on both sides of the wake (hs and ts).
From there I think the easiest is the regular ts 180 which would land you on your switch hs. The ts jump naturally wants to pull you to 180 and you can start them off as small as you want and progress to w2w.
If you can go w2w switch the hs halfcab would be easier. But landing on your toes is harder than heels. _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |

All great tips especially - LEAVE THE HANDLE ON THE HIP.
I spent an evening last week trying w2w 180's and nailed the spin & landing almost every time. I had stuck one-wake 180's as well as inside-out 180's and felt ready to launch.
The problem I had was keeping the handle in. Once the handle gets away from your body, you'll get slack in the line and upon landing the boat will rip you backwards. Gave myself a minor concussion when I got yanked backwards and slammed on the last run. |

great tips keep them coming. i think ill try it TS, landing switch HS first. cause im not jumping switch yet. never been outa the water yet.
i was watching waketrix, and shapiro recomends putting your strength/weight/line tension, on your rear hand on approach and as you pop. said this will cause you to naturally unwind as you release your front hand. makes since. any one use this technique? _________________

I would recommend single wake 180's first no matter what. It teaches you how to land and ride it out. Plus it doesn't hurt near as bad as a W2W if you mess up.
Try TS FS and HS FS single wake 180's first, see what you're most comfortable with, and when you're ready go for the W2W.
Best of luck!

you just got to go with what ever feels natural. you could even try olie 180's, becuase they give you a bit of a feel of how to spin, and they come in handy later on.
if you can do these easy, then wake 180's will be much easier.
but whatever you feel is right buddy, youre the rider _________________ shutup and ride |

well last night i tryed my first one, TS FS 180,
i tryed 4 and got the rotation and landing on all 4 but couldnt hang on. once goofy i had all my weight on my rear foot when coming down, and would land and hang on for a second (maybe less?) and then the board would slid out straight forward pointing at the boat. i just had too much rear weight for some reason. never did ride away _________________

| I had the same troubles when I recently learned 180's. Was trying to nail TS FS 180 off one wake. Kept landing with alot of weight on rear foot and would slide out. the key for me was waiting on the spin. At first, I would try to spin off the wake and was getting crushed. Then i started to wait on the rotation until I was almost ready to land and I would let go with back hand after I landed so I didnt feel so wierd riding switch. If the switch landing is whats getting you, just spend more time riding switch to get more comfy. Just make sure and not try to spin off the wake and you should be able to nail it. |

i had the same problem when i was learning ollie 180s. id always land, and id basically land sitting on the tail of my board i just made sure i kept my weight centered, and i got it.
maybe, try not to "throw" the board too much, concentrate on "yanking" yourself around with the rope. so if youre jumping TS FS 180, yank the rope with youre right hand, and it will pull you around _________________ shutup and ride |

| I had on wake TS 180's dialed about amonth ago. I thre 3 or 4 and landed every one of them, and now they are gone. haven't landed one since. I think it's because i'm trying to get more air under them, and thinking too much about that. I'm pulling the handle to my R hip, but wind up either perpindicular, and catch the TS edge, or get the rotation, but off axis, and land too far on my heels. Any help? |

well heres a couple pics we took of my attempts. like i said im getting the rotation fine, and landing goofy just fine, but the board slides out the front towards the boat every time, because of too much rear weight. you can see even in the air ive already got my weight over the rear goofy foot.
help
