Well, booked our vacation last night. 7 days in the Bahamas at the Sheraton Grand Bahama Island Our Lucaya Resort

Anybody been there? Info, tips...things to do, see? Hopefully there will be no hurricanes...seeing as were going in the middle of the season (Sept 18-25)

Oh well...got a hell of a deal..plus I lived in Corpus Christi for 5 years and had a few hurricane parties...so I am used too it! HAHA

I'll see if a certain Surgeon and a group of RNs will be in the Keys during that time.
It appears for the last 3 yrs every time that they have a planned vacation for that location, a hurricane occurs and evacuates the area.

So far their record is 100% for hurricanes during scheduled vacation.

I'm in the keys right now, sucks big time. No beaches, no sun, pouring rain, thunder and lightening.... the only highlight was the 30 dorado my we caught today.

Hopefully you get good weather!

That hotel looks amazing. I've only been to Grand Bahama on a cruise stop, so I don't really have much insight.

Dpierce37, Stayed their twice, once on a family vacation and once on spring break. The hotel has a very nice pool and is right on the beach. It is also next door to the casino. Across the street is the square where all of the bars and restaurants are, and it is where I spent most of my nights. There is no need to go into the town of Freeport, it is a decent drive and not really worth it. Just stick to the beach, drink some bahama mamas, and have a great time

Dpierce37, oh I'm just saying that entire OR knows that if these 2 groups make plans for the Keys it's a guarantee that something will happen.

Not saying it's going to happen to you, but I'm just checking as an insurance that they don't have plans. Laughing

Speaking of insurance, did you get any for this trip?

Dragonlady8, Yup, got the travel insurance. September is the worst month of the year to go...guess that's why I got such a great deal. HAHA

ilubronix, thanks man....as long as I got fruit in my beer....I mean....Beer in my hand...I am good to go!!! HAHAHA Heard there were some good eats in the marina area...I am hoping to rent a scooter to drive to all the different beaches.

Dpierce37, no prob man..Being that you are in peak hurricane season, bring a surfboard and gets some crystal blue bahamian barrels. I bet if you asked some locals they know of all the reefs that take hurricane swell, maybe even a point in there

Well I am back....the trip was kind of fun. Had a great time on the beach, and hanging out in the pool...met some really cool people. I doubt I will ever go back. Customer service is non existent on the Island. I have never been asked to by more drugs in my life. They approached me in the ocean, at the hotel bar, walking around the hotel, as I was eating in a restaurant...and worse, a group we were hanging out with said they got a knock on there door seeing if they wanted to buy anything. They would bot leave us alone.

Service SUCKS b/c before you even sit down...the waiter.waitress has already earned there 15% tip so they feel no need to work to hard to make you happy. So after waiting 20 minutes just to order a $15 crappy burger, you wait another 30 to 45 minutes to eat it. Everything you buy from a beer to a side salad already has gratuity added. I like to tip...but I tip for good service.

Anyways, we had great weather, took out a 54' catamaran for a sunset cruise, and a snorkeling trip the next day. Became good friends with Captain Tony and his first mate TK. Good guys.

Since it was the hurricane season....it was slow. The hotel did not impress me at all...all the hot tubes for just warm tubs. The beach was empty so that was nice. We hung out at the Westin pool most of the time. Much better. We ate at an AWESOME Greek restaurant almost twice a day (Zorba's if you are ever there). The nightlife consist of walking b/w three bars, Sparky's, Bahama Mamas, or Shenanigans...and most of the time, we were the only ones in them.

Overall we made the best of it and made some good memories (that better be the only thing we made Shocked

haha ) The Island still has not recovered from the 04/05 hurricane season. I was stir crazy after staying in the Lucya area for 5 days, so the last day I rented a scooter and took off. We went to Paradise cove and hung out all day...well worth the trip. Anyways here are some pics!

jt09, yea that's why we don't have a home yet...we spend all our money on vacations. We both love to travel, so why not. Gotta have fun while your still young and no kids!!! HAHA
