| Last time we went to the lake I had a pretty decent run and decided to try something new. I am a beginner and only get to go out about once a week. I went to do a backside lipside and did it smoothly the first time. I went to try it agene and was leaning pretty far forward but all of a sudden I caught an edge or something and landed on my back. Turns out that I ruptured my ear drum. I didnt feel like a was leaning to far back, I acctually thought that I was leaning more forwards than backwards. Is this a common thing to happen? What did I do wrong? |

Sorry to hear about your ear, quite painful I've heard!
I can say for sure that sometimes I've caught an edge and had to figure out why. Sometimes I was leaning my body plenty, but in the moment of things I did not have my toes or heels angled correctly which of course is the only thing that really matters. Likely you were leaning your body and also leaning your feet separately instead of all as one unit if that makes any sense.
Regards,

Had that also sometimes, is frustrating.
Sad for you ear, i know many more people who have it, so please wear a helmet with protection for your ears. _________________

Also, try reducing the boat speed to "sliding speed" (about 14-16 mph) when trying surface tricks and slides. When you catch an edge, it hurts far less and you're less likely to injure yourself. Hang in there. _________________ Hilton Head Wake Sports.com

sorry to hear that... but It is very possible that the second time you were leaning even more away from the boat than before, but it's your heels that matter. You don't really have to do any leaning at all, just be sure that your heels are UP, otherwise, you'll catch that dreaded heelside edge.
Also, like HHI said, try slowing the boat down a little for practicing these and any surface tricks. Another tip is to keep that rope low and to your hip, this makes it easier getting those toes down and heels up. _________________ Wake Forest University |
