My current I/O boat is on it's way down, so before it's worth nothing, we're gonna try to trade it in and get a better wakeboard boat.

I'm not really sure how some of you guys afford these $75k Malibus and Nautiques, but we can't pay anything like that. $30k would be the absolute highest, but preferably more towards $20k...

...which is why I'm looking at Moombas. The boats on the sticky guide look good, but they're pretty old, and I'd be concerned about reliability. For the same price as an '00 Malibu, I could be getting an almost new Moomba.

Anyway, can someone tell me if getting a Mobius over an Outback is worth it? They're a few thousand more, but they seem to be geared more toward wakeboarding?

Mobius is made for wakeboarding and the Outback is for skiing if you want a better wake go with the Mobius

Cool, that's what I figured. Only problem is it's hard to find good deals on wakeboarding boats in NY...

I got a Mobius XLV this year and it's great. Huge wake with the 2k ballast, great surfing too. I'd stick with the Mobius, you'll be much happier in the long run.

The outback V is indeed the old mobius hull. The direct drive outback is not. The outback V will create a much better wake than the standard outback will.

If it's an 09 it's an all new Hull for the Outback V and it's actually a little shorter and wider then the 08. You will an LSV or XLV better and they will both produce a better wake but they both cost more of course.

I was shopping Moombas this time last year. The sales guy said in plain English that I would be disappointed with the Outback V vs. the Mobius if the boat was primarily to be used for wakeboarding...which it would have been.

When I optioned them both out with the basics (standard sound system, tower, two racks, and full ballast) the Mobius only came in about $2500 more than the Outback. This was for a new '08 model in September of '07.

Also, dealers offer "boat show pricing" for the new model year. We're getting close to that time again. You can usually save about $3,000 in "free" options.

Unfortunately, your $30k price ceiling eliminates a new Outback or Mobius. Most of the used Mobius models on onlyinboards.com seem to be in the mid to upper $30k range.

Here's a nice Outback V for $30k though.

As for me, I decided to keep my I/O and went with an '07 Harley Road King instead of a new boat. Laughing Laughing Laughing

I was interested in the Outback V until I sat in one. Very low seats, I felt like a giant.

You also have to think about resale. IMO

your not going to do any worse on resale in $ on a moomba vs BU, MC, CC. Just look at the prices on used. You will lose $20k in 5 years. A 5 year old moomba v- drive isn't going to sell for less than 19k

I think total loss is going to be about the same. The Used Bu's or CC's might resell for more but they also cost more to begin with.

I owned an 05 Outback DD, and currently own an 07 Mobius LSV. The Outback was a good boat and I never had a single problem out of it. It did have small wake syndrome even with 1100lbs of ballast. It was good, but nothing compared to my new boat. The main reason I sold it was because I just had a baby and my wife didn't like the low freeboard. The LSV fit us perfectly, great hull, plently of room, and an amazing wake with 2500lbs in it.

As for resale on the Moombas, when I sold my Outback it had 140 hours on it. I sold it for $500 less than I paid for it. Anyone that tells you Moombas don't hold their value is a complete idiot.

eeven73, Those boats are for sale, not sold. Listed price means nothing at this point.
