I see a lot of posts about "needing a third." Is there a law that says you have to have 2 people in the boat if you are pulling someone?
Along the same lines....I see stuff about a flag too...what's the deal with that? |

In Cali. and I believe most states, you need a spotter in the boat. In Cali. the spotter cannot be younger than 12, and they have to hold an orange or red flag up when there is a rider down, or a rope in the water.
Is that what you were asking, JT??? |

| K-dub, Yup, that's it....I figured it was something like that. Damn glad they don't have that rule in TX. 90% of the times I ride are with just one other person. Thanks dood! |

In Indiana, you have to have a watcher. But on the smaller lakes there's little to no police presence. Me and the woman go all the time. _________________ www.MidwestMilitia.net |

Wow, I just learned some shiznat!
In Minnesota, you don't need a spotter/watcher as long as the driver has a wide-angle mirror with unobstructed view. But here's the stuff I didn't know:
> Ropes cannot be more than 150', so all y'all riding at 155' off are illegal!
> The rider doesn't actually have to wear the PFD, as long as it's in the towing watercraft. How's that for nuts? Sorry man, any sport where I could concuss and/or black out sees me wearing something that will prevent me from sucking water instead of air.
> The MN Dept of Natural Resources has 1/2 a page on regs for towed water sports, and 7 1/2 pages on regs & guidelines for PWCs! _________________ "Practice, man, jus' practice" - Wynton Marsalis

In Cali can you have a mirror? There are a lot of times I wanna go riding but only have one buddy. Or in Cali do you HAVE to have a spotter no matter what? _________________ 2001 Liquid Force Helix 139

NH is gay like that, they make you have a spotter... I break that rule almost every other time I go out....
I got a ticket once and was like laughing when he gave it to me, he was like this is no joke. Oh really I said then why in other states all I need is this big mirror? he didn't have an answer for that one. I told him he better be ready for court cuz I'm fighting it all the way. The case never made it to court and I never had to pay a thing. I found out this year that the guy that gave me the ticket drowned in a boating accident when he was out fishing in his private boat up at Milton 3 ponds in NH...bad karma for Mr. safety I guess.. _________________ PEACE

Here they require a spotter or a mirror. When the girls went back to the house for a swim, me and my buddy had a run in with the boys in blue over this one. We talked him down to a warning, then ran back up to the garage and C-clamped on the mirror. I guess it goes to show we'll even try to bend the most lenient rules. Funny thing is, when he asked to see our "mirror" I thought he said our "beer" - which I was happy to show him and he laughed. |
