Go with takamine. I bought an electric-acoustic and it rocks! _________________ My opinion is my opinion!

I'm a bass player as well, but I've been playing for quite some time & I've got a little bit of guitar skill so I'll throw my 2 cents.
Martin's are NOT beginner acoustic guitars. If you have $1200+ laying around that you wanna spend real fast go get a Martin. They're great guitars, but if you're still learning it's too much for ya.
In my opinion, Gibson & Fender are better electric guitar manufacturers. Their acoustics are okay, but I think they leave something to be desired. Taks are pretty good, but for the money you're looking to spend you might consider a Yamaha. I wasn't down with Yamaha for a long time but my sister let me borrow her acoustic once & I was shocked at the sound of it. Really rich tones & easy to play. If you can get your hands on a Yamaha dreadnought just try it out & see how you like it, I don't think you'll be disappointed. |

I agree with Jester... Martins are way to expensive for the beginner... you're going to scratch the hell out of the top while learning how to play/strum, so stick with something mid-range...
The Ovation's are pretty nice beginner guitars too, and have the benefit of also being able to be plugged in.

True dat. It's kinda wierd, Taylor used some sorta coup to get to where they are, I'd never heard of 'em until just a few years ago & then all of a sudden EVERYBODY wants to have a Taylor. When I started playing Martin was (& still is in my opinion) alpha dog as far as acoustic guitars. The Taylors I've played are nice, but for the coin you gotta drop to get one I'd get a Martin.
Does Dave Matthews play Taylor? That's the only explanation I can think of for their sudden rise in popularity. |

I play a Tayler 910. It's the second Tayler I've owned. The first was an 810. It was an amazing guitar, but unfortunately was destroyed in a car crash. I also have an inexpensive fender acoustic, solid top. I baught it on sale for about $250, about 10 years ago, and it has served me quite well.
There are alot of good guitars mentioned on this thread, but the most important thing is to play alot of them in the shop before you buy. I used spend hours trying out the Martins and Taylers. I can attenst that Tayler is the finest guitar made in the world, but you have to pay for it. _________________ Anything worth doing, is worth overdoing |
