So I broke down, I bought 4 of these guys to see what I can do with them. Price is right! (Check site below) Anyone have any ideas on how to bring the wire into the boat yet keeping the water out of the boat? I suppose just running the wire through a drilled hole and than epoxying the sh/t of out it would probably work, but just checking to see if any of you have any ideas.

Those look pretty cool. I guess installation and waterproofing would depend on where you are putting them. It seems to me like you can surface mount them on the outside where you want to install, only drilling a small hole for the wire. If you have them above the typical water line, some caulking around the wire hole and the edges of the install should take care of it, I'd think.

You might be able to make it more waterproof by doing a complete thru-hull installation, since it has the main body with a lip flange type design.

I put 2 of those on my transom. Yes, the price is right, but don't expect them to look as bright as the picture. It has to be totally dark out before they really work.

Since I have perfect pass now, I removed both my speedo pickups and installed the LED's in their place. I ran the wire through the speedo tubing into the boat, and wired them into my anchor light. Works well..

Can't decide about these. Very cool in theory, but my lake is so murky. Thoughts? Worth it?

Boats, yes. Trucks, no. Laughing

The LED's on their own are pretty much water tight aren't they? After a little hot glue? Really wanna do these on the next boat.

You can run the power through the platform brackets. neg on one end positive on the other, no need to drill holes for the wire.

Cool pics, but they are all on ocean water, which can be very clear.

Like Erik said, anyone have these on good ole murky lake water? I would like to try them out as well.

Yes, we have.
It doesn't matter since the murkier the water, the more the light will be distributed around the boat (because the particles in the water are what makes it shining).

I've seen these on bigger boats but never on a ski/wakeboard boat. I do like it though

I plan on installing mine this week! I'll keep everyone posted. They are much smaller than I expected, I might need more than 4 of them. Smile (They are about the same diameter as a pop can)

Take lots and lots of pics to document the process and take notes about things so you don't forget and then post all of that on here for those of us who're planning to do the same thing this fall.

Yeah, kind of selfish of me to ask, but just think what a boost it'll give your ego to have everyone comment on the great job you did on the install and on the pics and instructions you'll post Smile

I would like to see it as well. I really am torn though. I have red LEDs in my boat just like the red Xstars in the pic. So I thought I would continue the red trend, but that blue in the water just looks sick. I don't think it would look the same in the lake water though.

haugy, I am taking my Wakesetter out to the "Dirty Delta" tonight for the weekend. I have underwater LED's like the ones above in the MC picture. Haven't been able to get out on the water at night this season yet, but will this weekend. The water in the Delta is as murky (brackish river water)as you can get. I'll snap some shots of what it looks like in really dirty water for you. Laughing

My lights are white, btw.

boardordie, got some pics on Sunday night, but spent all damn day yesterday hung over on the couch. I'm at work now, and the camera is at home. I'll try to get some of them uploaded tonight....
Hopefully, they came out alright. I took them late sunday night after a long day of beers and several shots of Crown during the bbq that we were at. Pretty sure my camera skills might have been suffering at that point. Laughing At least I didn't drop the camera in the water....

K-dub, on the excuses scale, that one is pretty good... I give it a 8 out of 10! Mr. Green

In your drunken and hazy memory... did they illuminate the water pretty much like pictured above or did the delta funk keep them from working well?

boardordie, they lit up the water pretty well considering the water is a very murky brown.....I think that actually made it light up the water better in a way though?

alright.....

I have several pics....all with the flash on. Upon looking at these, I remember almost dropping the camera in the water off of the dock behind my friends house trying to figure out how to turn the flash off in the dark....

here are a few of the ones I thought show the lights better than others...

Those are pretty good pics for drunken photography! Laughing

That's better than I thought it would be in all that murky water. How many LED's are you actually using? Easy installation or did you have your shop install?

boardordie, those are the Malibu factory installed lights. There are 2 groups of 6 LEDs mounted right above the exhaust under the waterline.
We have installed them after the fact using Malibu's parts, but have also done several different styles and colors mounted in several different spots for multiple customers.

We actually have one guy that did the whole underside of his swim platform in red LEDs last year....he also did them behind every speaker in the boat and on the tower, inside and under every cupholder, under the lip inside of his icechest, and inside the front and rear vents. (He has a 247 wakesetter) The boat looks like a UFO on the water at night.

I never took any of my old boat in the water at night, but here's a shot out of the water. Mine were above the platform and in the vents. I thought it looked bad ass.

Sorry for the poor quality.

K-dub, I think he's talking about the Anchor Light on the tower. Looks odd in that pic because of movement.

legal in California as long as the lights aren't blue. Laughing

Blue is the color the sheriff boats use.

so they could be red or green in CA? would that not violate some type of night navigation code?

I think it'd be awesome to have some red led lighting under the swim platform and in the rear mesh vents to go along with the red on the interior... any idea on if thats legal in NC? Laughing

K-dub, first pic, it looks like a bright white light in the middle of the other two. 3 lights total, from what I can see. Or I'm on crack.

oshensurfer, you know what would be awesome. A picture from someone other than Ernie the epileptic. Laughing I bet that would be sick to see in person.

haugy, that's weird...never noticed that until you said something. There is only 2 pods of lights there. For some reason it looks like 3 in that pic.....weird.

Blindside_137, from what I understand, Blue is the only color that people out here have been harassed for. Never heard of them being harassed for them under the water line, only when they used them on the tower behind speaker grills, or in the rear and front vents, etc. I guess from a distance at night, it makes them look like a Sheriff boat?
I know of one guy that had to change his lights out to a different color because of the Blue he was using.
I have seen just about every color used that is available. Some people out here have so many lights that it make's the pic that oshensurfer posted above look basic.

Har har. I didn't take the pic, but I agree. Don't know why I never took any other ones. It looked bad arse.
