Just wanted to thank all of you for making this forum. I realize this is my first actual post, but I've been reading quietly on these forums for months (from the point where I knew nothing about wakeboarding to being completely addicted today).
I'm a 28 year old pharmacist that has wanted to learn to wakeboard for a few years now (most of that time was spent studying). I bought my first board ~1 month ago...2008 Hyperlite Premier 141. I LOVE IT. I'm to the point where I can consistently get up and now can actually enjoy riding (but I'm still a complete novice).
My first question is any advice you can give me on edging. I ride "regular" (left foot front) and can easily edge to my heelside by just leaning back on both my back foot and heelside...the problem is I bail EVERY time I try to edge to the right (toeside). I can't seem to lean on my toeside without the board somehow going under. Please give me some advice on how to improve my form - even if I'm just getting lucky with bad form on my heelside edge. There may be an old post that talks about this...if I missed it, I apologize.
Again, THANK YOU for your patience and taking time for the little people starting out (I know you are busy doing your tantrums) |

| well edging should really come pretty naturally if you have the correct riding position just going strait. you need to be sure to almost thrust your left hip towards the boat and keep most of your weight on your right leg which should be bent. also make sure when you are holding the rope to hold near your leading hip. your upper body should be stiff and somewhat in line with your left leg. this is the correct riding stance if you can picture it. when it comes to edging either way, you need to initiate it with your back foot so for you, while in the correct stance, you need to lean over that foot but be subtle with it you should be able to edge pretty easily if you ride correctly so try it out this way n u should be pretty good.....you can also try it with holding on with only your left hand if you dont get too off balance. |

I am also a complete Novice! I am 43 and just started wakeboarding this year, after having bought my first boat last year. I knew I needed some training, so I bought TheBookDVD and am also looking at purchasing the WakeTrix DVD. Additionally, the first few weeks I watched a ton of Wakeboard Videos on YouTube! This is a great forum, but I believe videos have helped significantly!
Since I trailer my boat and take it to the lakes I prefer, I haven't been hanging around the marinas meeting others who wakeboard. I'm sure if I could find a few people who have been wakeboarding for a few years, they can 'show and tell' and my learning would most likely improve. Perhaps that's a way to find others and learn too.
Good Luck....

Thanks for the replies....after looking at videos I can see where I am going wrong. It's getting easier and easier...too bad I'm running out of time this season.
Baker - Hang in there...I promise it's worth it once you pass your boards. Good luck! |

| I have a friend who rides, and on his toeside edges he lets go with his back hand. This may be considered cheating, but it will at least get you used to the body lean and feel of the toeside edge without dealing with the upper body twist as well, and then you can put your back hand back on when you feel comfortable. |
