I love the traditional American Breakfast. Fried eggs, sausage, bacon, ham steaks, hash browns, I love it all. Breakfast foods are greatness.
I also like hamburgers.
The other night in chat someone was talking about burger places that put a fried egg on their burger. I already liked bacon on a burger, and then they put fried eggs on a burger, so I thought to myself, "breakfast foods make burgers better."
So I figured if a few breakfast foods make a burger better, than all the breakfast foods will make a burger FANTASTIC!
So today I began the All American Breakfast Burger, of which I recently finished eating all of it that I could.
So let's begin!
First, I decided to wear the T-Shirt I got for a diabetes research fundraiser. I figured it was appropriate. In the past I've helped fight diabetes, so it's only fair that today I do something in favor of diabetes.
Let's turn our attention to the food.
Our cast of characters. Beef patty, sausage, bacon, egg, cheese, ham steak, hash browns, jalapenos, and a kaiser roll. Not pictured: the egg, it was still in the fridge.
Hamburger patties were cooked on the Foreman Grill. It seemed a little silly to fire up the real grill considering this was only going to be about 20% of the final meat makeup of this sandwich.
All the pork products thrown on the electric griddle. Ham steak, a giant sausage patty, and a bunch of bacon. Can't have enough bacon.
I took the ham steak off earlier than the others as it was already fully cooked when I bought it. The sausage and bacon were coming along nicely.
Then came the hash browns. They were cheap frozen Kroger brand hash browns, and they didn't quite get as brown and crispy as I had wanted, but oh well. They didn't provide much flavor to the final product, but I like to think they played a role in juice retention and sandwich stability.
No breakfast is complete without an egg, so I of course had to fry one up.
I cut the roll in half and buttered the inside, then threw them on the griddle to toast up a bit.
Now we're ready for the assembly!
First a piece of cheddar cheese.
Then some bacon.
Then the beef patty, this is a hamburger after all.
Then some hash browns to separate the beef and sausage.
Then the sausage patty.
Then came another slice of cheddar and some more bacon.
Can't forget the ham!
Another layer of hash browns and MORE bacon. Can't have enough bacon.
Topped with the fried egg.
The jalapenos finished it off.
The final sandwich. Just take in all its majesty and glory. Makes you damn proud to be an American, doesn't it. As I was taking this picture, I could swear I heard the faint sound of Angels singing.
When I went to squish it down a bit so I could handle the thing, some of the egg yolk shot out and off the plate. It was a shame to lose some yolk, but most of it stayed in the sandwich.
Physically speaking, this was not easy to eat. My jaw simply won't unhinge itself.
But boy was it glorious. The bacon, the cheese, the sausage, it all combined into a wonderfully greasy explosion of flavor. The jalapenos and the sausage providing just enough of a spicy kick, the ham and the beef imposing their will on the rest of the sandwich. The crunchy, crispy bacon giving flavor as well as texture.
But this beast has a dark side. Not even halfway through the sandwich I began feeling as though I had gotten myself in over my head. My creation began to turn on me.
Look at it, you can tell it is mocking me. It knows I don't have the gastronomical fortitude to finish the job. I even broke down and began using the fork, trying my best to "divide and conquer" I began eating the sandwich in pieces.
Much like Homer in the episode where he became a truck driver, I found myself looking at my plate "there's still food there and I don't want to eat it!"
After consuming roughly 70% of the sandwich, I called it quits.
In the time it took to upload the pics and write this post, I've begun to get sleepy. The meat coma will soon be upon me. I only hope I awake again on the other side. |

It's the same as the one's in norcal, that's for sure. I grew up in Sac eating western bacon cheeseburgers like they were going out of style. _________________ www.texaswakeboarders.com |
