So this weekend i had my first serious attempt at the tantrum. I came pretty close, but was wondering what everyone thinks. Is it as simple as cutting harder to clear the wake to hit that landing, or is it a little bit more? And how does my height and rotation look?

Thanks.

that was number 4 on the day. before i had just let go of the handle on the approach and just tried flipping straight back- so kinda half-assed. but this time i actually went for it. so ya, that video was #4 of my true attempts.

If you slow that video down it's pretty easy to see that your shoulders aren't squared up at all at the wake. You kind of just ride up the wake and throw it. Which isn't too bad. At least you didn't throw super early and you did get decent pop. If you go even bigger you'll be able to get around and spot your landing and actually adjust to the fact that you left the wake without squaring your shoulders. However, it would probably be easier to just focus more on squaring up before leaving the wake so you won't have to compensate on your way down. As you land you can see your board is pretty much perpendiculer to the boat which will pop the handle when you land almost every time.

freeze your frame right as you're at the wake. You're still squatted and not square to the wake with your back shoulders as ^^^ he said above. If you hit the wake squatted and then try to huck straight back, you're only going to go as high as a squatted stance will allow.

walk you through my process.

1. cut out pretty far

2. haul ass on edge towards the wake. knee's bent, continuous edge.

3. before I get to the wake I stand a bit taller, come off edge a bit, no longer hunched and crouched like I would if I was just doing a big HS air. what's that? come off my edge a bit ? yea that's what I said Smile haha. I found when I started this trick I'd always hold my edge too long and not really have time to square my shoulders or stand tall, so I just do it a bit earlier now.

4. As I ride up the wake I am thinking to stand really tall and somewhat square my shoulders with the wake. You shouldn't feel yourself sliding square, more-so your upper body is squaring. Keeping the handle in near your front hip.

5. This is the commitment part, Let go with the backhand and put your head back, keep looking for that landing, the bigger you go the more time you have to spot your landing. If you're getting pulled out the front it's probably because you didn't have the handle in close on take off. How you hit the wake is generally close to how you'll land when you're coming down from the wake.

6. As you come over the top and start to see water, think about continuing your edge as you land.. this will help you from spinning a blind 180 the wrong way (as I always did when I first started to learn these).

Depending on the size of your wake and how hard you cut, the amount you need to huck this is different.
tiny boat with no wake, hope and huck. xstar, SAN, you should barely have to toss it. I've done them behind both and can say that if you have no wake, ie. 17 ft outboard with no tower, you should go for a pull behind a wakeboard boat and it will come to you a lot easier.

That my friends, is a step by step of my learning process on the tantrum. You may do it differently. But those are the steps I see in my head every time I throw one.

thanks for all the tips. i tried a couple times behind my boat, which is an old sea ray and wasn't getting enough pop. took it back to my friends mastercraft (which the videos are from) and landed it first try.

here's the vid, check it out. let me know what you think...

Good work fella. Has the guy who was so stoked that he dropped the video down and didn't capture your celebrations properly got over his dead leg yet? Wink
