board rack help, got some ideas - do you have better ones?

Let me first say that I would like to defend myself by saying the filthy search function would not work for me at all so I'm posting this even though some other do it yourselfer like me has become extremely annoyed with the price of board racks and has built this himself.

Secondly, I must say board racks are insanely priced. Now I could shell me out 300 + for 2 board racks but I definitely want to stick it to the man on this one. There is no way anyone should have to pay 300 bucks for that small amount of metal.

Now that I have that off my chest the following is what im considering, but there are holes and most likely better things to use than I plan on using.

I planned on grabbing some good old conduit from a local store and using those for the frame. I was hoping there would be an easier material.. perhaps something that already had finger like spaces in it? Who knows.. Anyway if I go with the conduit and weld my own frame, now I have a 100% metal frame, but have to somehow connect it to the tower.

This one has me dumbfounded other than exhaust clamps. You know those big old exhaust clamps used to keep your cars muffler clamped to the exhaust pipe? Well it just so turns out that the base of those bad boys are steel. I could most likely finagle a way to weld one of those bad boys to the center of the frame. This would allow me to attach it to the tower.

Now we still have to rubberize this bad boy so I'm not destroying the boards I put in there. I stumbled across this and it seems to be a good idea since I dont want to have to deal with other ideas where the foam will most likely rot away.

Finally.. I need to throw on some bungees. I doubt this will be a problem and will deal with it after the fact. Most likely I can purchase bungee cord from somewhere and from there it should just be a matter of attaching it to the rack and making whatever additions necessary to be able to wrap the boards and still re anchor on the other side.

Go to a local machine shop, one that has a lazer/water jet draw out what you need and the 3 pieces to make up a rack will cost around 60-80 bucks, powder coat about 20, chrome around 40-50, or just grab some bungees and strap boards to the top of your tower

You could try sandwiching three long pieces of aluminum square stock with a few nylong stand offs or ferrules, all of which you can get from lowes or home depot. Not sure how your clamp it to the tower. Maybe exhaust clamps? For the price you can find board racks now, it dosnt really pay.
