Ok if you think Bear Grylls sucks that is ....fine..
However Mr Grylls doesn't suck.. Discovery Channel does.
Anyone that serves as a specialist Combat Survival Instructor and Patrol Medic with the SAS has my respect. Especially if that person breaks his back and after that climbs Mount Everest..

I've had to stick a sizer and stapler up some dude's poo filled ass for a colon resection.
The worse part was after the air test and having all the liquid stuff shoot out all over my shoes, the floor and the wall.
........ and it wasn't put on national TV or in the news, so top that.

DLady, correct me if I'm wrong, but this isn't the first time you've been spattered with poo.
How does one get assigned to rectal duty? Or perhaps the better question would be how does one avoid being assigned to rectal duty.
I thought they made sure to clear the system of patients getting a bung job well in advance of the procedure.
Somehow I suspect I'll regret asking at least one of those questions.

These guys both have training so they probably both know what to do in a survival situation with the means at hand. To say that one is a "better survivalist" because of what you saw and more importantly what you DIDNT see on TV is a little far fetched.

Of course he does, its a TV show! There are TV shows about dozens of mundane things such as driving a truck across an ice road and working on an oil rig. If these shows had anything to do with reality you would be bored stiff. Would you watch a show that had some fat guy that farts in his truck while driving across ice? Its called entertainment and most people have confused what they see on TV with real life..Survival shows are no exception.

There is a difference between shat upon vs shat at.
The surgeon is the one who decides between the 2 of us will get the crappy dooty and it's not going to be the Captain of the ship. 
No avoiding rectal duty when it's putting the colon back together.
Usually if a patient is compliant, there's not much poo in the system. But about <10% aren't compliant and another 5% are kinda sorta compliant.
This particular case the patient is a Momma's Boy and she decided when and how much of the bowel prep was going to occur.
So instead of starting the morning before, she start the at midnight for a 730 case. Thanks Mom 
Sometimes it's just not worth the hassle to cancel but depending upon the reason for the surgery, they do on occasion reschedule so the pt can do the prep properly.
