You asked for it, you got it. Free-riding at its best is coming back to Monroe, LA this summer. The event will begin on July 10, continue until July 13, and will be located at the original site for Louisiana Spring Fling, Moon Lake Marina.
For those of you who have never been to one of the original LSF's, you can't imagine how great the wakeboarding can be. Moon Lake is a bay off of the Ouachita River (pronounced washitaw by the locals). The Ouachita River offers miles and miles of uninterupted waterways with sandbars all along the way to stop on if you wish.
The event, named Moon Lake Re-aWAKEning or MLR for short, will primarily be a free-ride event with a possible nontraditional contest on the Saturday of the event; possibly a phattest 180, best trick, or highest ollie, haven't decided yet, so if you have a preference, let us know.
BTW, for those of you who have been to this area before, you're in for a nice treat. The parking area and boat launch were closed all last summer for repairs, thus the name "Moon Lake Re-aWAKEning". Wait until you see what we have now. Ample parking, a much wider boat launch, and even a floating dock now grace Moon Lake.

I miss that yearly trip to Moon lake marina. Pat even made an appearance to the Moon lake..

Where is Joey(?) I think he was the grandson of the guy that owned the marina? Is he still riding?

There was also another kid that was really good that lived right by the marina.

Glad to see everyone is anxious to come!

Joey can refer to a couple of people. The owner of Moon Lake Marina is named Joey and he has a son also referred to as Joey, little Joe, or simply Joe. Pretty good rider, recently graduated high school, so congrats to him.

The other kid who used to live near the marina was Robert Southworth. That kid was awesome. However, his parents busted up, dad moved off, they sold their boat, and in the meantime, he lost interest in the sport. He recently moved in with his dad who lives in another area.

Few of the other old standby locals are occasionally seen on the water these days. Chris P. can occasionally be seen, but only when it's raining (our joke). That little red-headed girl who was at all of the Louisiana events still rides, but she ain't so little any more (my baby is growing up way too fast). As already stated, some of the marina's family, the Neitz's are still riding. The Monroe waterways have recently become infested with a lot of people fairly new to the sport, but just as enthusiastic as ever.

Robert.. that was the kid.. really good rider. I did hear all that. I was sad to hear that things did not work out. I remember them having us over at one LSF.

Chris P? Wow.. I did not know he was still around that area.

Joey that I am talking about should have been out of highschool a long time ago.

What about Chris's sister, Byron and his girl?

Chris had actually quit riding much after Marty moved to Dallas. Then, out of the blue, he started riding with us due to contact by a mutual friend. Since then he quit his couch potato hobby and started riding mountain bikes again and wakeboarding on occasion.
Don't ever see Chris's sis, not really sure about her.
I see Byron occasionally. Not really sure what he does for entertainment, I guess play family guy or something. His wife works at my daughter's school, and he no longer has a boat. That's about all I know about Byron these days. I miss watching his Hoochie glides. That dude could sail on a h glide.
I'm still not sure what Joey you're in referenc to. You sure it wasn't Justin? He is related to the whole marina family. His dad is out on the water often, but he moved to Houston, I think. I see him occasionally, and suspect he will come to town for this event.

Yep, Chris is still around, riding boards and bikes.

Byron and Doll Ann are still together, but I sold his boat for him. His back finally put a hurtin on his wakeboarding.

Justin is who you are thinking of, Ed. Joey owns the marina, but Justin was his nephew that used to ride with us and kill it.

Wow, just mention his name and he appears!

I hope McFly is bringing a large crew from Dallas.

Is Justin still in Monroe or did he go somewhere else? He was trying to get into the industry so I was not sure if he made it.

Justin moved to Houston (I think, could be another city) a couple of years ago. Not sure what he's doing for work. I see him occasionally in Monroe and suspect he will come to this event.

Go to www.myspace.com/moonlakereawakening to view the latest blog entry. MLR is posed to be one of the "can't miss" events of the summer.

DOUBLE-UP Contest
Well, it has been argued and discussed and even voted upon in some areas, but it's now settled. Moon Lake Re-aWAKEning (MLR) will support a double-up contest. The contest will be held on the Saturday during MLR; that's July 12 for those of you who haven't been paying attention. Registration will begin at 12:00 noon with the double-ups to begin around 1:00pm. Each participant will be given up to 2 chances to throw down the biggest, baddest, most tweaked out trick they are capable of throwing off of a double-up. Judging will be performed primarily by the contestants, along with some input from the event coordinators.

Tentatively, the double-up contest will be pulled by Louisiana Wakeboarding dot Com's Mastercraft X-Star.

Along with best double-up trick, other facets that will be acknowledged will be biggest air and hardest fall.
