Direct drive inboard, Mercruiser 260 HP 350ci, Borg Warner velvet drive tansimission.
Started noticing a strange "clunking" noise last year while the boat is in gear at low RPMs (500-600 RPM). Still happening this year. The noise is random sounding. It doesn't keep an even cadence like it's 1 clunk per revolution or anything like that. Doesn't happen when the boat is in neutral, and it doesn't happen once the RPMs go up a bit (750). There is no noticeable vibration that goes with the noise. I can put my hand on the engine and I can hear the noise but I can't really feel anything vibrating.
Anyone have any ideas? Just launched the boat for the season, hoping I can get through the pathetically short wakeboarding season that I get around here without having any down time to fix the boat. _________________ How do you apologize to a friend for something like that?
