Marine Mechanic Help!! Mercruiser 5.7 w/ alpha one outdrive!

Damn rock jumped in front of me... lower unit opposite side of prop has hole in it. Can I change just lower unit, do I need whole outdrive, how can I tell ?? I really am hoping I can get this fixed before FRiday.. We all took this weekend off to do some riding !!!!!! PLEASE !!!!! thanks in advance -Keith

www.stearndrive.cc <- this is where I bought my outdrive when I hit something. It sounds like it only the lower unit it is actually easy to replace I did mine in about 2 hours.

Sounds like the lower unit took the hit and not the prop - in which case the upper unit gears are probably ok. Its not hard to change the lower unit. I used to pull it every season for the impeller. Get the gasket kit with the drive and be careful with the small ones.

I decided to get whole new outrive... I don't know how bad the old one was, nor what previous owners of boat did with it... I am gonna take it apart check it all, rebuild it, keep it as a spare in case anyone else out here ends up needing one... Now it's on to finding a new prop... I'll be searching around here... maybe even post another thread..
