So i read that post a while back about how to make the lawn all better, and I've got some good grasses (yes, plural, about 3 different kinds while my Zoysia spreads) growing and finally have decent coverage on the yard, but I did a piss-poor job of leveling things out when i tilled the yard, and coupled that with a TON of rain after i sprigged the zoysia, washing a lot of crap in between away and making for a lumpy lawn. I saw something about just taking sand and spreading it to level things out...how does that work, exactly? Is there a specific kind of sand? Do i just need to rake it across and let the grass grow through it? Does it need to be watered to help it stay in place?

Help! Lumps suck!

you can topdress or roll.

Topdress = adding quality topsoil into low spots. grass will grow through if not to thick

roll= pull a water weighted roller over top of lawn. do this spring or fall when the ground is still soft but not soaked-mushy this is less desirable because it compacts soil.

there's your answer right there. you can use sand, but i would do a mix of dillo dirt and sand if possible. or sandy loam. it's pretty hard to mess up once you have made it this far. basically just topdress it and then rake it into the low parts. water it a bit heavier for a week or two to help the grass poke through and settle the dirt/sand. repeat if necessary.

Awesome, thanks guys.

I was wondering about the rolling, but didn't know that was an option if you hadn't just recently sodded.
