I want to try a tantrum this weekend. But I dont know if I am ready yet. I can consistantly land hs w2w jumps. I can sometimes land ts and hs 180's. I can do grabs. I cant do w2w ts jumps yet but im working on that. Am i ready to try a tantrum, or should i try i 360. PLease tell me if im ready to try a tantrum. And if so, is there any thing i need to know about doing a taantrum. I have detention so i know what to do but is there any additional info i need. Thanx for any help! |

The backroll is a much easier release, I haven't come across many riders that tried the backroll and had a lot of difficulty with it, but I have seen many bodies take some mean back-dives trying tantrums.
Below is the trick tip from this site on the backroll, its pretty comprehensive. You can do a search in this forum to find a lot more posts about the tantrum or the backroll. The most important thing is having a strong enough edge and release and committing to the whole trick, you can't half-a$$ it or there is no way you will complete the rotation.

A bunch of people have an easier time learning tantrums/backrolls than 360s, so youd probably be fine trying an invert first. I dont completely agree with Jim about the backroll, though. Some people will find the backroll easier and others will find the tantrum easier. I'd say try the one you think you will be able to do best first, and if you cant get it, try the other. But, Jim is right about comitting. You really have to go for it and not take it half-assed. |

I would defenently feel more comfortable doing a tantrum. I can do one on my trampoline and stomp it every time with the rope in my hand. I can also do a little one off of a wakeskate.
WHAT DOES IT FEEL LIKE THE FIRST TIME YOU TRY AN INVERT???
DOES IT HURT WHEN YOU TRY TO LAND??? OR IS IT NOT AS BAD AS YOU THINK??? |

I tried a tantrum first manly cuz i can do them on a tramp with easy. But there both pretty much the same. Crashing doesnt hurt anymore then 180s. You should be ready to try 360's to, i think 360 crashes hurt more the tantrums or backrolls. |

Thats exactly what i was thinking. If you get the rotation around it couldnt possibly hurt harder than any other trick crash. |

Just get out and try it. Better yet, try it with someone that can already do them.

no worries on crashes, wakeboarding is great because crashes don't hurt.
I won't even consider doing an invert on a snowboard, water is more forgiving than snow, or concrete for skateboarding.

So if I have a crash and it hurts, can I sue?
I'm in about the same situation as WakeMaker - except I'm over 30 and recovery takes longer. I want to go for that backroll this weekend. Nathan, be prepared to hear from my lawyers. |

nathan is right. most of the crashes dont hurt but in any sport you do, some are goin to hurt. Its just part of wakeboarding. i did crash hard a couple of times learning backrolls but it was worth it when i landed it.
wakemaker-You should go for it man. Dont give up cuz you might not land it in the first 10 tries but you never know. good luck. shred it up! _________________ W$R |
