| I just installed 2 of the polk monster tower speakers with a 300 watt amp. I havent taken the boat out yet, but was wondering if I will be fine with just the single battery in the boat. I have a 4.3 liter I/O to give you some idea of what size battery is in there. The system sounds great so far with the boat off. |

I say it is always a good idea to have a 2nd battery just in case, and I think most of the other members on here will tell you the same thing.
Yes it is going to cost you a little bit more money, but it is well worth it, because it gives you peace of mind not having to worry about your battery going dead on you. |

i have a 600 watt amp powering my four tower speakers. I just turn off the music when the boat isnt on. Having the cd player wired to the acc switch just turn it off and on when your riding..
But if you wanna park your boat on a beach and listen to tunes, you will def need a second battery. Amps draw enough power to suck down your battery within minutes. _________________ Lake Shelbyville, IL |

Bingo. If you're parking your boat and listening to tunes get a 2nd battery and switch. So that way when you want to listen to tunes you can turn off your starting battery and switch to your 2nd battery.
The best way to do it is with a Deep Cycle battery for draining. A starting battery is not meant to be drained down. If you keep draining it and filling it, the battery will burn out quickly. A Deep cycle battery is meant to be drained and re-charged. If your other battery is a starting battery you will need to get an isolator so that they don't drain each other when connected together.

Your boat probably has a dual purpose battery. If that's the case, your setup could survive about 1 hour of use between engine run times. As stated above, if you plan on entertaining the crowd for very long, get another batt. Don't be surprised if you have as much in the 2nd battery setup as you do in the stereo system thus far. The good part is, if you continue to upgrade the stereo, you've got the mandatory expense out of the way. _________________ http://www.youtube.com/greasemonkeytv |
