Help with Depth Finder

I have a new depth finder and cannot get this to work. It stays on 1.5 feet always. It is a depth finder that gets glued to the bottom of the boat inside the hull next to the engine. I pulled this up and glued it again. Just can't get it to work. Any ideas?

The only thing I can think of is to make sure there are NO bubbles in the glue you use. My instructions said to use an 'hard' epoxy, not a silicon based glue. It needs to see a definite destinstion between the transducer/hull and the water, otherwise it will screw up the reading. Also make sure that it not directly behind (aft) a turn fin, water pickup, perfect pass paddle or other disruption in the hull, the water turbulance will also screw up a reading at speed. I mounted mine right beside the stuffing box and I have had no problems. Good luck!

Make sure you are using a slow setting epoxy. This type of expoxy generally takes about 24 hours to cure. A fast setting epoxy, traps air bubbles.

I've used silicon to test the depth finders before. Then cleaned and epoxied the permanent position.

I'd go with siuski. Depth finders should be on the thinnest part of the hull you can find. This would also have no obstructions ( fins, rudder, prop ) in the area. Also, see how your boat runs. I don't see what kind you have, but you want the finder away from any bubble streams that may be under the hull or strakes.
