DIY Grille Guard help?

I'll be picking up some scrap metal for my buddy to fabricate me a grille guard or a bush bar or whatever you want to call it for my 1990 Ranger 4x4

It will probably be similar to this:


Before I CAD it out for him I have a couple questions:
-Where does it mount to? Does it mount where the tow hooks are bolted onto the frame at the front or will it be welded on?

-What metal is best (cheap and durable)?

-Best ways to rust-proof it?

-bolt or weld it to the frame. Period. If you don't do this you might as well ask for someone to shove the guard straight through your radiator

-Cold Rolled Steel and DOM tubing thickness only depends on how stout you want it and what you want it to hold up to.

-Get the whole thing lineX'ed or rhino lined....any kind of bedliner
