Anybody been to Bullards Bar? I was there today and saw their new houseboats. All I gotta say is "Holy Sh1t!". They are awesome! And the new pulls they have for rent are sick. Get this, Emerald Cove is RENTING out Wakecraft ZR6's! I already booked mine for Jul 4th weekend. And they still have a couple of spots left for the summer. |

Bullards is not what I'd call a secret. I used to go there every now and again. It's just kind of a pain to get to when I had the river 5 minutes away.
I really think it's a beautiful lake tho. Cold as hell in the spring.
Clementine used to be a secret until about 5 years ago. _________________ (insert funny chit here) |

Well Sorrrrrrryyyy! I don't mean to sound like I'm advertising here. I just live near the lake and nobody seems to talk about it. |

and that is why it remains great, too far away from the SAC crowd, and who lives in the surrounding towns? north san juan anybody?
just went there this weekend, 61 degrees, still pretty damn cold, but nice being the only one there |

Living in Florida now but Bullards Bar is one of my favorite places I've riden. There is nothing like be up there right before sunset when the water is glass. Shasta is a close second!!
If you can get to Bullards Bar...do it!! |

I just rented their Wakecraft boat on Sunday from the Emerald Cove Marina. I'd recommend staying away from rentals here. Their staff was very customer-unfriendly and downright hateful to me.
First, I rented the boat for 8 hours from 8:30am to 4:30pm, but when I arrived at 10am, the boat wasn't ready until 11am even though I was 1.5 hours late (i.e. they had plenty of time to get it ready but they were busy cleaning some other ski boat that wasn't even being rented that day when we arrived). As we set out on the water for the day, I asked if we needed to return it clean and the guy said don't worry about it.
So we went out on the lake. The boat was "ok", but not all that powerful, the engine was loud, the throttle very touchy, broken glove box, and when water got into the bow from a rogue wave, the bilge pump didn't work very well. The experience was okay though, but just so so for a $525 rental. Oh and the boat was small - their website claims that it's a 22' boat, but it's actually 20.6' and our 7 people were cramped. The Wakecraft ZR6 is definitely NOT on par with Malibu's, Mastercraft's, Nautiques.
The problem came when we brought the boat back. Since we had lunch at the beach, there was some sand in the boat from our feet but nothing major. The boat was clean otherwise, no spills, etc. Nothing that 10 minutes of vacuuming couldn't resolve. We once again asked the guy at the dock if we should clean it and again he said no.
I went to the counter to check out and asked the girl for a 1 hour credit since I paid for 8 hours but the boat was only available for 7 hours. She freaked out, asked her boss who gave me attitude and said "okay but I'm not doing that again".
Then the young office girl and an older woman in the office proceeded to be totally rude and give me major attitude and insults, saying things like "who's going to clean this boat - you brought it back all dirty", and "the reason your boat wasn't ready was because another boat was broken and we had to give out the boat to another renter this morning, give us a break". It was a real fiasco. After 15 minutes of arguing even after the boss said okay to the refund, I got my $60 credit and will never rent from this place again. It wasn't about the $60 - I paid $525+$60 fuel for the boat, it was about them not having the boat ready for a whole hour. I was also planning to rent a $1,000/day houseboat from them next week and told them that, then the office girl says with major attitude, "you going to bring it back dirty like you did this boat?"
The older lady even said "yeah we'll give you this credit, and now you can go rent boats at Oroville or Folsom". So basically because they screwed up and didn't have the boat ready for an hour, and because I called them on it and wanted a 1 hour credit, they're banning me from rental? WTF? She changed her tune after I said I was planning to rent the $1k/day houseboat.
I said, "in what condition were we supposed to bring the boat back - your guy told us it didn't have to be clean." She said "in about the same condition as it left". Yeah right - when we picked up the boat they had just got done cleaning it, vacuuming it, and emptying trash (the last renter didn't leave it clean and they even left a bunch of beer cans in the boat, whereas we didn't drink and we left no trash in the boat), so I asked if they had vacuums out on the lake - duh we couldn't bring it back clean. It was an 8 hour rental - did they expect us to just sit in the water for 8 hours? The lake is surrounded by beach.
I won't be renting there again. The lake is nice, nice temperature water, but the lake is too small. And these rental people are the kind of people that might sue you if you put a 1 inch scratch on the boat. They even raise the boat out of the water before and after rental to verify that the prop is not bent. This wasn't one rogue employee: this was two front office employees and their boss, all behaving badly, all using poor judgement.
So Bullards Bar Emerald Cove Marina: is the economy so bad, and times so rough, that you've resorted to humiliating a customer over $60, especially when you guys messed up and didn't have my boat ready for 1 out of my 8 rental hours? End result? Berryessa gets my $3,000 houseboat rental, and your prospective customers get to read this post when they search google for Bullards Bar rentals.

There is nothing I hate more than a fun day on the water, especially if it costs me an extra $60 when I spent $500. _________________

Clearly you're missing the point. I paid for 8 hours, but the boat was only available for 7 hours. If the boat had only been available for 2 hours, should I still pay $525? How about for 30 minutes? Where do you draw the line? The pro rated 1 hour credit was fair. We had friends that drove 3 hours to the lake and had to leave early at 2pm, and thus got screwed out of 1 of their short 3 hours of boating, as well. I wasn't paying $525 for "a fun day of boating", I was paying $525 for 8 full hours of boat use and they didn't deliver that.
It wasn't a big deal either way - it became a big deal when they treated me rudely instead of what should have been a very simple and clear cut exchange after I asked casually and politely for the 1 hour pro rated use credit. I would have rather that they politely declined to issue the credit than to treat me so hatefully. |
