At 5:00 this morning i wake up to the phone ringing. It was Jason's twin brother calling to say it snowed last night! We got about a half and inch. Here in alabama half an inch is enough to close just about everything. Its really quite sad. all the schools are closed, trash pick up is cancled, and roads are closed. But yet the Mall is still open and i have to go to work!! Sad I'm really not looking Fwd to driving my rear wheel drive car on ice. Anyone have any snow driving tips for me? Wish me luck.

sounds like Seattle. it will probable be slushy or gone in the morning because that not very much snow. and should cause any delay for ya. but if it is icy, then take you time. Youll be fine

We got about 3-4 inches up my way! Closed everything. The roads are completely white and slick. It is great though, I have tons of stuff to do inside. Be safe if you have to be out and take some extra clothes and supplies! Charge the cellphone too!

We got a couple of inches here in NC. The bad part is the temps are going to be wicked cold for several days. Anything that melts with the help of the sun will just refreeze at sundown. I enjoyed having 4WD this year. However, I'm not driving after dark. Black ice is bad no matter what you drive.

Yeah, we probably could get a foot and a half and we'd still have to go.

hey 4 years ago there was a 75 % chance of snow and they closed our school----well i wake up late after enjoying sleeping in too find out it never even snowed

Alabama is very ridiculous about snow or the chance of snow and the city hall people can overreact very well.

Schools up here closed for the cold weather today. First time I've ever heard of it happening.

And about closing school for 1/2 inch. Gotta be kidding me. The first time I ever legally drove with an instructor there was 1 foot of snow out and I did fine. Maybe it's a northern instinct kind of thing.

Yea, in Memphis we can 1/2 an inch last night too, I couldn't believe it was snowing, it melted though before morning and it's 14 degrees right now!!! It's soooooo damn cold.

The problem wasn't really the snow as much as it was the snow melting and creating ice. Fresh snow wasn't hard to drive on, but after a few cars ran over it and compacted it togather it turned to ice and froze on the roadways. That is why they decided to close the schools. After about noon the sun had warmed up the roads enough and most of it had melted.

I agree that we over react when it comes to snow, but I have no problem driving on it. If you keep your head about you it's not any harded than driving like it was raining, but ice is a totally different deal. It also doesn't help that we only get snow maybe a few days every few years or so. We don't get as much practice driving on it like you lucky folks up north. The city also doesn't have as good a means of taking care of slick spots like they do up north.

Guess what I'm trying to say is, you don't have to be raised in the north to drive in snow and ice, but we all will slide off the road the same way if you don't pay attention.

well really we have no excuse besides those with cars but haLf of bama's population owns a big ass truck with tons of traction so only those with cars esp. rear wheel drive should have trouble

most likely they will add days at the end not take away spring break b/c many families will already hasve planned vacations andtherefore school would have very little attendance
