Fossilfuelburner,
I installed a system just like your's from your write up, great info, Thank's.
I have one problem, sometime's when I hit the fill switch the pump will not push the water into the bag. I have to take the fill line off at the pump and blow into it to push out the air pocket out into the fat sac, then put the line back on the pump and it work's. Why is this. My fill pump's are below the water line and are full of water when I take off the fill line.
Anyone know what's going on?
Thank's for any info!!!! |

The angle of the output of the fill pump is very important. Is the output on your pump vertical (pointing straight up)? I had mine pointed between horizontal and vertical (if you can picture that) and had issues with prime and couldn't figure out why. When I turned it to point vertical, I never had another prime issue. Are you using a check valve? Where is it? Spring or Swing? _________________ 2007 Searay 185 w/ tower, Perfect Pass, 2000 lbs ballast, 21P High Five, (4) 6-1/2" Polk Momo speakers, 10" Polk Momo sub, 600 watts total RMS |

whats the purpose of the vent? wont the bag just collapse while draining? instead of making vacuum?
And also do the through hull fittings only allow water to go one way or are they just open inside? |

^^^ I thing the best reason for a vent is so that you know when the bag is full. |

2. Ballast must be fully automatic (no manual valves to turn)
3. Drains from the side of the hull, not the bottom
PUMPS
The first step was deciding whether to use a self-priming / reversible ballast puppy or Attwood Tsunami aerator pumps. At first I wanted to go with the Ballast Puppy for its self-priming feature, not allowing water to flow through when they’re in the off position, and simple plumbing. However, in order to achieve goals 2 and 3, a $150 solenoid valve would need to be purchased and plumbing would be more complex.

Can you expand on why a solenoid is needed to achieve goals 2 and 3? This is exactly how my factory ballast is set up. (Jabsco pumps, drains off the side of the hull). |
