| Anyone know of any reasonably priced digital cameras that take a decent number of shots per sec for action shots? The whole $2000 SLR thing seems a bit extreme for the occasional wakeboarding shot... |

| i got my Nikon d40x digital SLR for 700 and it takes 3 shots per second, not exactly a point and shoot but relatively affordable for a very nice camera |

the new casio ex-f1 will be out later this year. it will supposedly shoot 60fps still and will shoot hd video. retail $999. but, the fact that it is only 6mp (not necessarily a bad thing), isn't a dSLR, and no one has really gotten their hands on it to take any real world action shots makes it a hotly debated piece of equipment. _________________

ehhh, there are also some that claim that no one needs more than 6mp and shots are actually worse over 6mp. i am not a professional photographer, or digital camera engineer, so i don't know. it is an interesting piece tho, if nothing more than the high speed video capabilities. thousand dollar toy is kinda high tho

edit
except cropping a photo, i do know that MP will matter there |

I have been looking at that Casio - looks like a pretty impressive piece of kit. Though may be questionable how much you need 60fps unless you are mainly taking photos of bullets being shot at wineglasses.
I mean I know that my rotations are real nice and slow, but...
Craig-R, have you taken many sequences with your d40x? And if so how many shots do you squeeze into an average trick?
The previous version (the D40) manages 2.5 fps rather than 3, but is now only about half the price of the d40x... |

60 fps, that is really impressive.
You could make some real nice sequences with that.. |

Lots of people say the D40x isnt quite worth the extra money. The only thing you get from the X model is a higher MP rate, which is only used on large-size printouts.
On some stuff the ordinary D40 is even better than its sister D40x.
Id say go with the D40 if you want a relatively cheap DSLR camera. With another lens you can get great pictures, even though the standard 18-55 is great. But you might want a little bit more zoom to get a better picture on the rider.
I own a D40 myself, and I´m very pleased with it. Probably going to get a 55-200 VR lens in a couple of months.
Good luck and happy photographing! |

Get a used canon 20d. Less the $500, takes amazing pictures and shoots 5fps. _________________ http://www.integrity-wake.com

| I agree with russian. 20D is a great camera for action shots that you can find for pretty cheap. 5 fps does work out pretty well. |
