|
|
I am building a new computer from scratch and am having problems with it. Let me give you a run down of what I have
I have power to the computer - the power supply turns on, and all system fans plugged into the mobo turn on when I turn the power on from the front of the case.
That is all I have - no video, no beeps, No power to the CD Roms. I think I have power to the hard drives because I think I hear movement, but I cannot feel anything. Also the CPU does not get hot at all when I turn the power on.
So I need some help figuring this out - I do not know if it is the PSU, the mobo, CPU or RAM. My guess is a bad CPU or PSU, but not 100% sure - maybe it is multiple things.
Anyone out there had a similar problem and able to help out?

Check out the PSU connector at the motherboard with a multimeter. You should at least get a text screen showing your processor and a RAM check. _________________

Actually it most likely is not the PSU - I just plugged the PSU from my computer which I know works into this new one, and get the same behavior.
However why would I not have any power to the CD-Rom drives to even just open the drive door? _________________ If you do not like your job, you don't strike....You just go in there everyday and do it really half a$$ed.....Now that's the American way - Homer Simpson. |

garveyj, there should be a troubleshooting guide for your motherboard. I would take a look at that. It should have a solution for what to do on no beeps, one beep, multiple beeps etc.
The easiest thing to try is pulling your memory. You should be able to get to your bios screens without any memory.
I just bought the quad core 6600 on Friday for my new computer build (this will be my 4th). _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |

I am RMA'ing the PSU and the motherboard. From the advice I have gotten here and from other people I am at the conclusion that the problem is with one or both of these components.
Thanks for all your help...I hope this works. _________________ If you do not like your job, you don't strike....You just go in there everyday and do it really half a$$ed.....Now that's the American way - Homer Simpson. |

Ok - well it was not the Mobo or the power supply, so it must be either the CPU or the RAM right?
The CPU is not getting hot at all, so my assumption is that it is the CPU, since the RAM should not cause the CPU to not even start up.
Any thoughts to support or defeat this idea? _________________ If you do not like your job, you don't strike....You just go in there everyday and do it really half a$$ed.....Now that's the American way - Homer Simpson. |
