Ive noticed that hyperlites seem a little narrower and taller. But some details, price range, sizes might come in handy _________________
nessie is my homeboy so its all gravy
|

| I would go to your local shop and just try some on. It will at least give you an idea. |

Hey man, I know what you are saying, I had the same problem, I got the baller comp, and I love it, just a little longer/taller, but deffinetly not too bulky.. _________________ www.blackwaterrydas.com |

I'm with flyhigh. I'm 6'3", 225 and the Jet Pilot Baller comp is the best fitting vest I've found yet. I wear the XL/XXL. Like a lot of people, I don't have the option of going to a local shop and trying on different vests. The only thing we have around here is a Boater's World.

I agree with trying them on. Also make sure to get a USCGA approved vest. Non approved vests won't help save your life. _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |

agreed, but as far as NCGA's go, I have tried quite a few, and the baller by far floats me better than the others.. I dont condone NCGAs but if you are going to go with one, that is a good one to go with. I tried the CGA baller, and it just seemed too bulky for me.. but that was comming straight from a jetpilot A10 which is tiny, so take that with a grain of salt _________________ www.blackwaterrydas.com |

Wakebrad, no vest will turn you over with a board on your feet. most ngca's will float you even if your lungs fill up with water, because the human body is very close to neutrally buoyant. I never wear CGA's, and have no concerns over the safety of it. Any serious accident while wakeboarding will not be made any better with a CGA vest rather than a comp vest, IMO. _________________

There you have it. The experts have spoken.
I've worn CGA and non CGA vests. My Baller comp fits and floats as well as any vest I've ever worn. _________________ Hilton Head Wake Sports.com

Try the HL Special Agent vest. It's a little longer and covers up my gut much better than my LF Hinge did
As far as CGA vs. Non-CGA, true no vest will turn you frontside up with a board attached to your feet, but what about when the board comes off of your feet and you sink to the bottom of a river because you were wearing a non-approved vest?
To each their own, but I'm sure some of you have family members who would feel otherwise. Tragically, some we have already heard from _________________ "I'm not a professional wakeboarder, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn last night". |

I've been in the water with my vest and no board on. I definitely did not "sink to the bottom".
I'm not arguing that a CGA isn't a safer choice, but a non-CGA is far from an automatic death sentence. In the end, I feel the same way as I do about helmets...let those who ride decide. _________________ Hilton Head Wake Sports.com

What is this based on? Do you know the buoyant force required to keep the average human afloat when their lungs are filled with water as well as the buoyant force provided by most NCGA vests? All I know know is that when I am in a swimming pool and I let the air out of my lungs i sink like a rock. I can only imagine how fast I would sink while I am being weighed down by a couple extra pounds of water. Now I'm not saying not to wear NCGA vests, I just don't think anyone can say that NCGA vests will float you 90% of the time. With NCGA vest there is no guarantee. You could sell a sweater vest as an ncga vest if you wanted to. And if I take a fall that is hard enough to knock me out I'm gonna assume that the board comes off. |

I don't want to get into this debate.
But water wouldn't "weigh you down" it would neutrally buoyant.
That said some NCGA vests really do float well (I personally really like how the vapor floats.) but it cannot be a CGA approved vest because it doesn't have 2 buckles. Other vests such as the JP NCGA stuff I feel is totally unsafe. You wouldn't catch me dead in a molded stance or A-10 (or whatever their molded vest is these days.) Just my two cents. _________________ wakeboards

pooser, water doesn't sink in water, it is neutrally buoyant. So lungs full of water is equivalent to empty lungs. And That's Based on the fact that the human body is made up of 60% water. _________________

Well I don't know enough about anatomy to really make an accurate statment on this but I'll give it a shot anyways. Okay, so buoyancy is a function of fluid displaced and density/weight. So if there was no empty space in your body, your esophogas was collapsed on itself, as well as your stomach, and lungs. Water would fill these organs and cause the volume of your body to increase as well as the weight and would have no effect on buoyancy. However if your organs were collapsed with no empty space or air inside them you are pretty much Bubb Rubb anyways. Now, even if you breath out as much as possible there is still gonna be empty spaces and air trapped inside your organs. In other words, empty lungs are nver truly empty. The water that you start sucking in is going to replace the air and fill in the empty spaces, causing your weight to increase while the ammount of fluid displaced remains relatively constant.
Now I'm not trying to say NCGA vests can't be safe, but how can you say "most ncga vests will float you even when your lungs are filled with water" unless you've taken a bunch of vests, swallowed a bunch of water, and tested to see if it wil float you. |
