Posted: Feb 21, 2008 9:22 pm Post subject: The Slider In Progress ****(With Session Pictures)**** |
|
|
Well we (Jeff, Beau and I) started on the slider last night.. I feel like we got alot accomplished. We started out by going out to the pond and driving a 4x4 to get some measurements as far as dept and such, then we came back to the shop and assembled the top three sections of the slider. We also got the RFP pannel cut up and put on. We decided to go with a 13 degree on and off ramp. The slider is going to be 48ft all together. I was pretty happy with how it is looking. We have alot of bracing that cant be seen in some of the pictures, but wanted to share with everyone the work in progress. Hopefully we will be able to complete it Sat.. The most difficult part for us is going to be driving the posts. Ill keep everyone informed.

Not bad, I wish I had a pond to do that. Lakes in Wisconsin aren't alowed to have rails.

well todays the big day, we are hopefully going to be able to work on it all day and get it finsihed, hopefully able to try it out tommorow.. I will try to get sommore pictures up soon..
We have about 215 invested in this project, which isnt too bad split 3 ways..
The slider material is called FRP panel, its the same stuff that some people put in the backs of showers, or backsplashes. It comes in a bid sheet and we cut it to fit. Super slick when wet, however you have to be sure to sand/router the edges because they are real sharp.. A ton cheaper than trex.. this whole slider was cover for just 30 bux..

The rail is finished, took all day long, ran into a few snags along the way, and ended up having to work on it about an hour into the dark.. Hopefully have some pictures up tommorow.

Nice looking Slider. what did you anchor it in the ground with??? We run into soft mud that will not support the weight or impact down here.

really? only 2 feet. i got pics of my 40 footer on facebook, ill try and post a pic up here. ours was alot steeper which was... interesting haha. Yours looks sick and perfect angles, have fun on it. We jetted the 4x4's down with a pressure washer and it was extremely stable but we were pretty far down in the muck

yall must have some good mud...we are resorting to filling up 5 gallon buckets with concrete and sinking those a couple of feet with the poles in it...did you go off of plans or did you wing it as you went?

alafiaboarder, ya, actually, we are building this in an old shale pit (sp?), so the first 6 inches was pretty easy mud, and the rest got firm in a hurry. We used, as you can see in the pictures, just a 12 pound sledge. that freakin sucked, but did get the job done..
Slope, Actually man, it really went just like we planned. I mean, we figured out our slopes and did all the math for the poles to be apart, but really REALLY never figured it would come together like it was supposed too. But went together like a puzzle.. We are all very pleased with the outcome. Not bad for a couple computer nerds and a diesel mechanic..
