|
|
| I am really, really close to ordering a new 08 Mobius XLV. We went to the boat show in Calgary yesterday and it sure seems like a lot of boat and features for the money, especialy the new 08. I was wondering if anyone has opinions or experience with this boat (New or older models). I have kind of been going between the Malibu Vride, Centurion C4, and the XLV (apx the same price here). Any feed back, experience, or info at all would be greatly appreciated. |

I'm sure you pretty much know it already but:
You're getting a bigger boat for the money in the XLV so don't expect it to quite match the Malibu for quality.
Moomba build a great boat - with everything you need but it will never be quite as plush as a more premium brand - and as is the way of premium v less premium goods - the 'Bu will hold its money better in the long run.
Best advice I can give is to buyt he boat that best suits your needs - if you need the space of the XLV then its the boat for you, but if you can manage with a smaller boat then go for the plusher 'Bu. Centurion falls pretty much in the middle of those 2 brands and the laws apply in the same way too it.
Happy Purchasing! _________________ www.AxisBoats.co.uk | www.Malibu-Boats.co.uk |

At the show I looked quite closely at the Moomba and it seems like there have been a few improvements over last year including better cushons, seating, etc... I like the seating of the XLV and was hoping there were some other owners or riders who have rideen/owned this boat and could give me some feed back. _________________ 2010 Watson Hybrid

I have an 06 LSV and I loved the wake and the features you get for the price. I mean you really can't beat the wake. Steap and huge especially if you weight it right. The Malibu cannot even come close when it comes to wake size.
The only probelm is that when you go to resell you end up not doing quite as well as other boats. Not horrible but maybe 5% less on resale.
I have heard and hear horror stories about the Malibus. The wake wedge gets ripped of fairly easily causing you to take on water really fast and it adds more drag than weight. You will spend a ton on gas.

Sorry but I pretty much disagree with everything just posted apart from Moomba being great for the price, and a good boat for the money. _________________ www.AxisBoats.co.uk | www.Malibu-Boats.co.uk |

| I had an 06 XLV and loved it. The wake was huge, with lots of pop. The craftmansip is high end, they use the same construction and seating materials as their sister brand Supra, I just orderd a 08 21V. I have been very happy with Skiers Choice. The only thing Moomba doesn't offer is the bling you'll see on a lot of the higher priced boat lines. But with that said, Moomba has really been stepping it up over the last few years. If you can do without a lot of bling, you will not be dissapointed. Hope that hepls. |

i have a 2004 XLV and love it. only problem so far was the starter, less than $100 for a rebuild. to me, the most important factor in the purchase of a boat is the dealer. do some research, see which of them give the best service. if a brand of boat was really crap, it wouldnt sell and therefore wouldnt be produced. but as another poster stated, if size is what ya need, buy it. (unless the dealer is an ass) |

JoeyJojo, Really great point on dealers... couldn't agree more. That should be the deal breaker/maker much more than it currently is.
Speak to current customers out in the car park or where ever you can and see what their experience of the dealer is.... _________________ www.AxisBoats.co.uk | www.Malibu-Boats.co.uk |

The dealer I've dealt with so far on the Moomba XLV has been great right from the beginning, and I think they have a good reputation too (Mobius Marine in Calgary). I actually just called the sales person on a sunday at 5 pm and he answered his phone.
As for size, my family likes to just cruise some nights on the lake or fish, so the more room the better when there are 5 guys all fishing. _________________ 2010 Watson Hybrid

| the new xlv is a great boat and is what I will be using this year. By the way, anybody that says moomba's quality is less than others haven't looked at a moomba in the past 4-5 years. Also about resale being less, go look at nada values over the years. While you will see the depreciation percentage very close to other brands (with moomba having a slight edge on others), look at the actual money depreciated. Here is where you will see moomba blow everybody else out of the water. |

Jon, I've ridden in, driven and rode behind several Moomba's in the past 3 years actually - LS and LSV's. Great boats - I'm not bashing them for one second (I came within a hairs breadth of buying a Mobius LSV about 3 years ago and spent a solid week on an LSV last summer) but they cannot match other more expensive brands - and that's not their aim. The sound deadening is not as good, neither are the finishing details or standard features; we all know that's why they are the cheaper boat. Supras can - that's why they are on the same pricing level as other more premium boats and more so, that's why Skiers Choice build 2 brands - it wouldn't make much sense to build to boats that match each other on everything other than price would it? Moomba builds a great boat for the money and gets it dead right in my opinion; but don't compare it to a Mastercraft, Malibu or Nautique because unless you're talking price it just can't, and doesn't try to compete.
I can't comment too much on the US market but in the UK they do not hold their money anything like as well as the big 3 - I tend to feel its similar in the US looking at pricing.
Hope that clears that up: I'm not bashing in the least bit, I'm really fond of Moomba but to say its the same as (or better than) a Malibu just doesn't stack up. _________________ www.AxisBoats.co.uk | www.Malibu-Boats.co.uk |

Heck... I think you guys are sweating details here. It's all about the money. Moomba has a great price point. I went from a 1998 Bayliner bowrider on which I had put my own tower to a 2007 LSV Mobius. I couldn't be happier and I am not even looking back to see if MC, Nauti or any of the others are better, prettier, blingier or whatever! I get in that thing and my grin is bigger than a Cheshire cat's grin! 'Nuff said!

Figure I would chime in about the dealer. I have been a loyal Mobius Marine customer for 5 years now. I've bought two boats from them, started with a Moomba LS and moved to a Supra 21V.
They have been awesome to deal with in both the buying and service process. They are having a new service center built which I think will solve any complaints I might of had. They will be there for you if you run into issues which around Alberta is a tough thing to find. I would say Martin would be up there as well although I've never bought anything from them, I hear good things though.
PM me if you have any specific questions about Mobius, I would be happy to help you out. _________________ Riders Inc. |

Thanks a lot for the info Geoff, I'm glad to hear it. I think it will be a great boat for many years to come, and now I finally get to try Wake surfing!
For everyone who offered some experience, thanks a lot. Too me, it seems the biggest difference is the interior. Same motors, same perfect pass wakeboard pro, great wake. What more could you ask for? I mean to buy any NEW wakeboat isn't exactly for people on a Budget, but I was looking for Value in the boat or most bang for the buck and I think the XLV will deliver. 23 feet, PP, Wake Plate and 1950 lbs of Ballast just sound good to me
It's gonna be a good summer! _________________ 2010 Watson Hybrid

leviwynnyk, I rode an I/O for a few years and the first inboard boat I ever rode behind was the XLV and the owner also had 3 manhole lids under the ballast bags. When I cut outside the wake I looked over and actually got scared. It took the whole day to get use to that large of a wake. _________________ There'll be two dates on your tombstone/ And all your friends will read 'em/ But all that's gonna matter is that little dash between 'em... |

Ive been looking at the Mobius LSV and I really like them alot. Our dealer here works well with everyone and will usually help you out with whatever they can. The Mobius, for the money, is one hell of a boat IMO. They have come a long way in the past few years and I would be just as happy to have one of them as most any other boat. Hell its a boat isnt it? If you're getting to be out on the water in a boat like that, who cares what the side of it or the price tag says. Live it up b/c you're one of the lucky few. _________________ RIP John Healy, we are gonna miss you!
