Question abut board racks

I am currently building a set of board racks for my old sky high extended pylon. the question i have is what is the distance between the slots that the boards slide into? the width between the two sides is fairly easy, but i need to know the slot size before i weld them up and have to cut them apart again.

See if this graphic looks right, i need the measurement of where the "X's" are if this were the side profile of half of the rack. Does that make any sense?

Measure the thickness of your board/s, add about half an inch for padding, another quarter inch for room to slide the board in. Voila.
