Why lowest wattage? What type of amp are you going to run? How many speakers are you looking for? What is your budget?

sorry about the lack of info

why lowest wattage- what i really meant was "whats the lowest wattage i can have and still hear clearly"

i am on a teenage budget, so lowest price would be great
i figured the lower the wattage, cheaper speaker

i only want two speakers to begin with

and i will buy whatever amp i need

Wattage does not equal sound quality. If you want to hear the music clearly, you are probably going to need more than a teenage budget.

My advice, take whatever money you would spend on speakers and put it into a savings account and enjoy the sound of the water while you ride.

AIRjordan175, "keep in mind i will be wanting to hear the music clearly while riding"

Is not going to happen with a single pair of co-ax speakers. Unless your budget is 1,500 or so I don't think you'll come close to that goal. I have 4 6x9's on my tower and I still can't hear them all that clearly when riding.

AIRjordan175, When on a budget best possible use for the money in my opinion is to just buy a waterproof MP3 player and Waterproof headphones... You get to jam to whatever you want and will be able to hear it all clearly - Everyone wins Very Happy

Budget around 200 bucks for that.

If you really need tower speakers then buy the following:

2 Speaker can kit from here: http://www.diywake.com/shop/shopexd.asp?id=571
Speakers from ebay - go for the best you can afford; brands like Kicker, MB Quart and Polk are good starting points. Go for 1 or 2 way drivers - no more than that.

Buy an amp like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/KICKER-ZX250-2-250-WATT-2-CHANNEL-SUB-AMP-AMPLIFIER_W0QQitemZ260203868299QQihZ016QQcategoryZ39732QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

and then be prepared to spend about 50 bucks on wiring Smile

Its going to run you about $500 likely - this is an entry level system but will hold it's own and can be expanded later.

Cheapest/best bang for the buck would be for you to go with a wetbox that comes with four 6x9's ($350)

http://cgi.ebay.com/Wakeboard-Marine-Tower-Speakers-WetBox-4-6x9s-Rockford_W0QQitemZ330205297558QQihZ014QQcategoryZ23807QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

and get a a sony xplode 1000 watt amp ($65) http://cgi.ebay.com/SELD-SONY-XPLOD-XM1652Z-2-CH-1000-W-AMPLIFIER-XM-1652Z_W0QQitemZ150205934964QQihZ005QQcategoryZ39732QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Look, unless you plan on dropping like 1.5 - 2k on a good set of pod speakers like titans or skylons, you should stick with a 6x9 box like the one I listed. I've had all sorts of speakers on the three different boats I've owned. Currently, I've got Titan Alphas on my BU, and I can't even hear those all that well. To be honest, the only speakers I've ever been able to hear really well were some prototype deals that XTP had that encorporated a horn driver in them. They were the size of freakin toilet bowls though and were so loud that they hurt your ears when you were riding - not to mention absolutly deafened any one sitting behind them in the boat.

I plan on spending the 600$ or so and getting wetsounds and whatnot. However, we will see, since then I will need to reconfigure sound in my boat, so I would need to get an EQ, and then add a sub in my boat, and looky here, I spend well over 1300$

hco, Yup, thats the problem! Even a modest stereo these days runs to $1000 in a flash....

I'd be interested to know how much Grant has actually dropped into his Air Nautique....

What do you mean you need an eq? Does your stock radio have pre-amp outputs and a sub level control?

Something similar to what wetsounds is selling, I want something that allows me to adjust tower speakers separate from interior speakers, and I also like being able to fidget with all the settings. However, I am not sure if I want to buy wetsounds or not, seeing as how I am fairly confident I can find something similar for a much cheaper price (and I doubt it would be good to give me the ability to speak over my tower speakers, I have a feeling complaints of foul language would be filed).

hco,

The WS 420 is 2 EQ's in one. It not only gives you dual volumes but also dual eq adjustments. So you would have to purchase 2 seperate eq's to be able to do what this one does. So then it becomes a really good value. This is the only EQ like this. I hear you on the mic. That is why I designed the mic plug to easily plug in or out. So you can just unplug it if you have some crazy folks with you! Very Happy

Good stuff to know, thanks for that info Tim. I've got a list of things to buy, but hopefully my raise will be significant this summer, and new tower speakers, head unit, and EQ are at the top of my list.

Until I can get a WS420, I use PAC's to control the sub/tower/cabin independently. It's quick and dirty and was about $60.00 for the PAC's. Since I did not have an EQ, I needed something to turn down the Wet Sounds at times and still keep the sub and cabin pumpin!

I have 1 NVS Entity 1010 with a 500W zapco amp, you can hear it very clearly behind the boat (ask my neighbors! haha). I kept the 4 speakers in the back of the boat running off the head unit and the 2 bow speakers on a 100W amp..This lets me turn it up where you can hear it while riding but not be blown out in the boat. I have a manual switch so that i can turn off the NVS if I want to just chill and listen on the boat. This setup was about 2 Gs for everything....

My first setup was similiar to what people are saying for an entry system, had 2 skylons and 2 homemades all were 6 1/2 drivers, you really couldnt hear them.

If you want to listen while you ride...$$!

If you want a pair of tower speakers for relatively cheap let me know, mine are only a season old, and you can kind of hear it behind the boat, but it is more of something in the background rather than something that you are jamming to. Two 6 1/2" cans with MB quart speakers.
