working at a boat marina, primarily of fishing boats (maybe like 25 or so ib/ob ski boats) and 275 or so fishing boats. i have to say that csx is one of the oddest looking fishing boats i've seen.
is is a fishing boat? or like luxury sport....time to look up some more.
"
Saturday vs. Sunday
So much competes for your leisure time these days, we identified the need for a new species of craft—one boat capable of maximizing every adventurous moment aboard no matter where your travels take you. One versatile boat that would enable you to beat the weekend at its own game.
The CSX offers so much saltwater variety, the momentous things you do one day will compete against the thrilling things you can accomplish the next. From snorkeling to surfing to fishing to anything and everything in between, the CSX is the most adaptable boat ever invented.
It features a special saltwater engine and complete corrosion-resistant components throughout. Below, there’s room for scuba tanks, camping gear and water toys. With a 101-inch beam, there’s an incredible amount of room above to move around with 12 of your coolest friends. Add the optional rack system for boards, skis, or even a kayak.
So let it all hang loose on Saturday. Because Sunday is just around the corner, sitting there quietly licking its chops.
Length
21'5"
Beam
102"
Boat Weight
4,300 Lbs.
Seating
12 Persons or 1,595 Lbs.
Fuel Capacity
57 Gallons" - from mastercraft website.

in that video it says 94 grand for one.. can anybody confirm that?
seems a bit over the top for my taste. plus when you are fishing saltwater you need an outboard boat anyway

| Quote: | | Anyone hear anything about it? Friend just got back from the boat show and said it was super nice inside and very roomy. | Well, it's a freaking 26 foot boat, so yeah, it better be roomy! And I'm guessing it drives like total crap due to the fact that it's a 26 foot boat. But then I was told that it drives even worse than that, even though it's a direct drive.
And for a 26.5 foot boat, seating for only 12 is stupid.
I'm gonna go on a limb and guess that the MSRP hovers around $120K. I'm guessing 94K was some type of boat show price, because I think the X-80 is normally in the $120K-ish range, so a boat that's two feet shorter but required a crap-ton of research would run about that same price. Note that MC likes to pass on the bill for their R&D to the consumer.
I'm still not sure why this 26.5 foot CSX is attracting so much attention. High five for MC's marketing department.

The 4th pic of the 2nd post looks like an older Glastron Carlson Intimidator.

Note also that every manufacturer does this. Even Malibu.

Erik, true, but didn't you mention that MC dropped millions into the R&D for the CSX? And then didn't you mention (or was this a presumtion on your part?) that they were just going to pass the buck on to the consumer?
And how many of these boats have actually sold? The 220 I mean, because I can't imagine the 265 will be made in large numbers.
on a side note- there's a "Fearless yachts by Porsche" boat. Is this the same Porsche that I'm thinking of? The cover was over the boat so I couldn't check it out. It's sitting right next to three Wakecraft boats. I'd ask for my money back.

scott a, I think that the Fearless Yachts was done by the Porsche Design Studio ( http://www.porsche-design.com/live/Product_News_PDS_en.PorscheDesign?ActiveID=41825 ) While Porsche AG has majority ownership of the design company, I don't think they have much to do with the cars (probably the Porsche you're thinking of).
... it's even got a Chrysler engine. You'd think they'd at least tried to keep with the Porsche theme for that.

R&D costs are always going to be passed along to the consumer. I think MC is looking at the CSX line to be a long term revenue generator and therefore the upfront costs of R&D are an investment in long term growth.
In addition, assuming that the current MC production plant is not running at full capacity, than an increase in production could help increase efficiency and help to lower the overall production cost on each boat produced further increasing MC's bottom dollar.
Key word there being "assuming" I have no idea where MC's is at as far as capacity or efficiency, just saying that stretching into new markets could have a positive long term effect on their company and the boats we ride behind. A profitable company has the resources to invest in R&D and should do so (smartly) to continue being successful.

snowboardcorey, You're close.
MC knows that the Wakeboard Market isn't growing like it used to be. Thus their opinion is, "well we already build the best ski and wakeboard boats, and do ok in the high end sports boat market (Maristars), lets be the best at something else too" - The Fishing, recreational and dive boat markets are all big arenas to enter... if MC can get a small share in these areas then they could comfortably double their boat production. They are still sticking to their core competency of luxurious, high end boats.. just a different style of boat now.
MC entering new markets is a seriously smart move in my opinion; the CSX is an ideal test mule for this purpose.

| Who besides consumers ever pays for R&D? If someone has an address for where I can send some R&D bills please pass it along; I've got lots of work waiting.

I recognize that this is going beyond the scope of the boat forum, but venture capitalists don't give gifts...they want a return on their investment. If VCs fund R&D, it's only with the prospect of company revenues eventually exceeding the company's costs in order to return a profit. Profit = price of products (charged to the consumer) exceeds cost of products (including R&D) no matter where the initial investment came from.
I know you're smart on business so we're probably doing a semantic dance here.

How does the semantic dance go?
Yeah - you're right. The price of these boats is tough to justify rationally but I remain a fan of the CSX line.

I was in the prototype CSX 265 earelier this week and was blown away... Not sure what I could use it for but I know I'd find something!
If you just wanted something that was easy to maintain, has some range, good water rough water ability with several zones to chill out in then this is it.
awesome awesome awesome boat!
