Anyone been to Snowshoe yet? If so, how are the conditions? I'm leaving out on the 5th for a few days and am wondering how open it's going to be. This is about a month earlier than we usually go, so hopefully they will be close to fully open by then. |

Just got back an hour ago. Today was chilly (high was 6, temp was around 0 most of the day...wind chill might have hit -20) but it honestly didnt feel that bad. (We were layered...5 layers top 3 pairs of pants bottom etc). The cold and wind affected the snow. They got a foot plus this week so there was good coverage everywhere but it was packed as hard as a rock and FAST. The new runs were fun but Cupp was pretty rough. Fun times. |

It was in pretty rough shape the three days we were there, but considering it was 50+ degrees all three days we were not surprised. The timing sucked because they had a foot+ the week before we got there and a foot+ the week after we left, but we hit right on the three days the warm front moved through. Silvercreek was actually in much better shape than the main mountain, but we had a good time nonetheless. Didn't have to wait any that week for anything.
On a side note I would highly recommend the new hot dog place that opened up next to the Foxfire. Their gourmet hot dogs were some of the best I've had anywhere and they had good cold beer. One of my new favorites on the mountain. |
