My friend's GF wants to buy him a new wakeboard for X-Mas. He doesn't have one now and just uses mine for the time being. I have 2, and we both think it would be a good idea to buy a board that has different characteristics from the ones I have already. We both just started boarding back in the summer, but have the basics down pretty good.

The Cartel 144 I have seems to have a pretty good pop but seems a little unstable (or we're just not used to it).

The Vice 141 I have is good for surface tricks and a little air, but seems real heavy compared to the Cartel.

He weighs close to 200 and is 6' tall. I'm about 5'8" and 180. We can both were the same size bindings, which is about a L-XL. The Links bindings on my Vice are just about the right size.

What would be a good board?

you cant just say you want a board with different characteristics. there are to many, you need to be more specific.

What are the main differences from board to board then? What I'm saying is that between the 2 boards it seems like one gets more pop but seems unstable, and the other one is heavy and feels good for surface tricks.

also, what length should we be riding?

the length of the board depends on prefrence some people like a small board because its supposicdly faster and so on but you fit into either the middle size like 139/138 or the 140's. do you like a loose feel like the shane or something that is tight all the way through the wake like the PS3. you have to decide on a few thing like loose/tight, w2w pop/into the flats pop. fast/slow board. mostly to pick a board you have to know what your looking for.

I'd say get more pop, but not feel lose. At 60' it's kind of hard to get a W2W, much less a 180 or any other air tricks. That's behind a Supra with a lot of ballast. The only boards I've ridden are the ones mentioned above, so it's hard to compare, plus there aren't any pro-shops locally so I can't go demo one without driving 2 hours to pick one up.

jonyb, if your having trouble w2w at 60ft. lay off the ballast and learn to cut and properly get pop off the wake. most people ride much further back than 60 i personally ride at 75 and sometimes 80 but it depends on the boat. if you feel you want a new board i'd suggest the 3ds or PS3. PS3 is slower than the 3ds up they both track well and pop pretty good.

We can both get a W2W at 60', but it seems like it's so fast that there's no time for even a grab. I've tried with the ballast full and with it empty. We're still learning so I'm sure that has some to do with it.

Can you elaborate on a 3ds and PS3?

theres lots of threads on how to properly release off the wake. when you lengthen the rope it widens the wake the wider the wake the more time you have before landing on the next side. you'll progress and understnad that 60 is really short. I like the 3ds because its fast and snaps you off the wake i mainly like it because its fast and you are able to charge into the wake. the Ps3 i have had no experince with it but im pretty sure that because of the 2 slotted groves in it it tracks really well but gives really nice pop with soft landings(someone correct me if im wrong).
