|
|
I started seriously wakeboarding at the end of may. By serious I mean getting out at least 4 times a week with other boarders versus 2 times a year with my wife. I'm at a crossroads now and am looking for some backing. I think I've gotten through all the easy stuff and now need to get some more basic stuff so I can stick some inverts. I've tried HS backroll, Tantrum, 360. I perform these correct (as far as initiating) and even have landed on the board on some of them, I can never find my landing and always feel off axis.
I've somewhat given up on the inverts for now and have been working on the next logical thing which is the HS W2W 180. Here is my bag of tricks below, has anyone else had the problem of sticking the HS 180 thats at my progression level? I feel I need to get this then the switch 180's and w2w switch. I feel once those are done then I'll have the muscle memory to tweak out any landing from the inverts?
1) Ollie 180, switch and normal.
2) Surface 180, switch and normal.
3) Massive height and distance on the HS w2w
4) Butterslides
5) TS w2w 180 (these are easy, did this before TS W2W.
6) TS w2w (not nearly as much pop as HS but not to bad)
7) surface 360's
6) Sketchy 1 wake HS 180 (new)
7) This is where Iam - Working on HS 180 W2W |

sounds pretty good to me. thats pretty much where i am , add in some grabs here and there. have you heard of the 2 and 4 minute drills? do a search on this site for those , they should help allot with general riding technique. if all else fails , buy The Book dvd. kind of boring sometimes , but soooooo helpful. peace. _________________ "I just want something more than to come home in my cool looking SUV, sit in my king sized leather recliner and watch reality television on my widescreen plasma TV...How easy it is to care for someone when you dont have anything else..." |

cbaird, If you're talking to me , the answer is no on the HS 180 , I've landed ollie 180's but the w2w sux. I'm just not spending much time on it like I should. I've tried backrolls and tantrums. I have landed the tantrum twice , but each time I let go of the handle. Hopefully that will change tomorrow!!! _________________ "I just want something more than to come home in my cool looking SUV, sit in my king sized leather recliner and watch reality television on my widescreen plasma TV...How easy it is to care for someone when you dont have anything else..." |

| Holding the handle is the hard part. Thats partly my problem. The nice thing about the tantrum isn't doesn't hurt too much when you mess it up. |

| im about the same.. Havent clear w2w ts yet though... And yesterday I decided to try a tantrum... It was the end of the day and I said what the hell... I'll never know if I dont try. Didnt really work out for me. Instead of looking up and back I looked over my shoulder landed on my side horizontal to the water in the flats... Banged up a lil but nothing bad.. I know what NOT to do next. |

| markymarc, I had to focus on the TS w2w for a couple of weeks to nail it. Once you nail it and get a good feel you will get more air real quick. What worked for me on this was extreme rope control. I hold the rope with both hands firm to my leading hip and land that way. Some people say let go with one hand, but for me that doesn't make me as strong. |

The answer to your HS 180 is simple. You are spinning too early. I'm feeling pretty bored, so here's my trick progression... Everything before the 540s was on an IO, so it might be different than yours. I'll only name wake to wake tricks. I'll specify the ones I can't grab.
1)HS wake to wake
2)HS 180
3)HS backside 180
4)TS wake to wake
5)TS 180
6)HS backroll (no grab )
7)HS 360
8)TS 360
9)HS wrap bs 360
10)Switch HS bs 180
11)HS 540
12)HS backside 360
13)TS 540
14)Switch HS 360
15)HS roll to revert
16)TS backside 180 (no grab)
17)TS roll to revert
18)TS backroll
19)Switch HS bs 360 (no grab)
20)HS tantrum
21)HS tantrum to revert (no grab)
22)HS front flip (no grab)
23)HS tantrum to blind (no grab)
24)HS whirlybird (no grab)
Hopefully I will stick the pete rose and HS 720 soon! I can't remember when I learned switch wake to wake and switch wake to wake 180s... _________________ www.ten-80.com |

| k-wood kid, nah, haven't really tried... I don't know why, I just like spins and never got started on inverts. The boat I ride behind has a real washed out and wide wake (outboard), so it's hard for me to start learning them. |

1) HS 180
2) TS Grabs with Big Air
3) HS Backroll
4) HS Roastbeef, tail, melon, method and a few other good grabs.
...biggest accomplishement so far has been the backroll which is cake to throw now - probably easier than anything. Landings are hit and miss, either there smooth or a little butt check. Working on HS & TS FS 360 and Tantrum then want to go to the TS Backroll or scarecrow. Scarecrow depends how well the trantrum turns out. |

k if you still hvaent landed the HS W2W 180 its really easy. you just do a HS w2w then when your in the air (about halfway through your jump) pull hard with the handle to your right side then let go wtih your left hand and get on your toe edge when i did it i kept under rotating but i wouldnt take a bad fall i just landed too much on my heeledge and i would slip out so i had to think of over rotating then i landed it.
this is my trick progession im not very good yet.
