Hey guys. I am a low level intermediate rider (360's and close on backrolls so some may say this is a beginner) and I considering purchasing an 07 slingshot setup. I currently ride and 07 Shane setup. I am in my mid 30's and mainly looking at slingshot in hopes it will be a bit easier on the old body. I have a partially torn acl(Dr. does not recommend surgery at this point as my knee is stable, where cti2 brace)and a bad ankle. The 07 boots don't scare me as I where a lace up ankle brace on my bad ankle anyway, so I am used to it taking a while getting geared up. I don't have anywhere around me to demo the board but I am very curious about the soft landings and the potential for more pop out of these boards. I am about 5-8 and 170 lbs, what size slingshot should I look at? I have heard you may want to go bigger with these boards but don't know. Also is the boot sizing pretty accurate? I where a 9.5 shoe so I am assuming I should go with the size 10 boot?

I am really hoping to start sticking some inverts this year and improve my riding. Are these boards to far from the traditional wakeboard to let me do that easily? Thanks for any input you can give.

a slingshot is definitely what you need and you will not regret it, before even reading your post i was gonna reply saying "TRY" but especially after seeing you have a partially torn ACL then this board will be perfect for you, the landings are incredibly easy on the body. I'd say get the 138 cm and yeah size 10 boots..good luck!

im 5' 9, 158, ride the response 142, with drivers. knees are holdin up great!! Twisted Evil

I agree with craig, i was gonna say try it before i opened this and with the knee thing, for sure try it. It may take a few sets to get used to but i love mine and doubt i'll find a board to break me from flex boards but we'll see

still havn't ridden a recoil so im not sure how the landings are on that but my response is so smooth landin in the flats.

But for real, heard they are pretty good boards, the only downfall is, you have to slingshot bindings for them. And I love my watsons way to much to give them up

My B, I dont know about the 08's but last year that was a big deal, not everyone wanted to spend 800 bucks on full slingshot set.

I picked up an 07 setup in December for cheap. They had the 08's in stock, and they had the standard hole pattern so you can use your own bindings. They must have realized that they are missing out on some sales by requiring their own bindings. However, they claim that you need their bindings to get the full effect of the board flex since other bindings have a larger footprint.

after trying on slingshot bindings, there should be no reason you would ever want to use another company's bindings anyway

I got talked into a pair and board by Daniel T at the OKC board shop. I have the 07 Drivers and an 08 Recoil 138. I have not riden the board yet but I heat molded the bindings the other night and they feel GREAT! The whole setup is feather light as compared to my Krown and Gator-Gators. Hoping to try the setup out this weekend.

Craig-R, unless you ride cable. It's such a pain in the ass to do up three sets of laces every time you fall.

Interesting note: The future model Watson board is going to be a flex board... He's been testing out flexboards and plans on making his next board with controlled flex patterns, like the slingshots.

I have ridden my new slingshot setup about 6 times now and I absolutely love it. If you get a chance to demo one, I would highly suggest you give it a try.
