For someone who spent so much time detailing the nonjudging of others in the manly thread, that's pretty judgemental, no?

jt09, hey, the greek thing wasnt for me, I never ripped on people for being in the frat or sort.
My best friend was in a frat. I dont care.
I am really surprised how everyone is judging people. WHO CARES! be the best person you can, dont hurt other people, next.
Ramsey not hating, I think you need to hang out with people that are not the same, you might meet some really smart interesting people who can become a great friends and you might even learn something from them.
I will leave you with these word from Jello Biafra.
Terminal Preppie Lyrics
Artist: Dead Kennedys (Buy Dead Kennedys CDs)
Album: Plastic Surgery Disasters
I go to college
That makes me so cool
I live in a dorm
And show off by the pool
I join the right clubs
Just to build an impression
I block out thinking
It won't get me ahead
My ambition in life
Is to look good on paper
All I want is a slot
In some big corporation
John Belushi's my hero
I lampoon and I ape him
My news of the world
Comes from Sports Illustrated
I'm proud of my trophies
Like my empty beer cans
Stacked in rows up the wall
To impress all my friends
No, I'm not here to learn
I just want to get drunk
And major in business
And be taught how to Bubb Rubb
Win! Win!
I always play to win
Wanna fit in like a cog
In the faceless machine
I'm a terminal terminal terminal preppie
terminal terminal terminal preppie
terminal terminal terminal terminal
terminal terminal terminal terminal
I want a wife with tits
Who just smiles all the time
In my centerfold world
Filled with Springsteen and wine
Some day I'll have power
Some day I'll have boats
A tract in some suburb
With Thanksgivings to host
I'm a terminal terminal terminal preppie
terminal terminal terminal preppie
terminal terminal terminal preppie _________________ www.integrity-wake.com |

Don't really get the whole argument of seeing it as buying your friends. I'd consider a frat as basically a glorified dorm that allowed chicks, booze, drugs and debauchery. I miss the roman candle wars in the hallways.
Rent in an apartment was no less than the frat, no noise rules, meals were cooked, and intramural frat sports were a blast. Granted there were douches that you had to put up with, but that's life.

That's because of a reason - many frat rats are total douchebags. Stereotypes exist because plenty of people contibuted to that image.

Yet your first response was to call him gay for being in a frat. It works both ways man. |

To quote me from the other thread:
| Quote: | I don't need to pay for my friends. And I sure as hell am not paying to be belittled some by some a-hole who thinks he's lord of the manor.
Not hatin on you either E.J. But down here in the south, fratboys are lower than dogshiiit on my shoe, in my opinion. |
and again
| Quote: | I had a roomate my fresh year. He pledged Sigma Chi as it would be (later became pres of it too). When he told me what he went through, I felt sorry for him. He enjoyed it, but I could tell he was being brutalized. Sometimes people were invited to watch the insanity. When I saw my roomie being tortured in a many different ways. I couldn't figure it out. Why would you have to subject yourself to something like this to "create a stronger brotherhood" ?
Life experiences create bonds, not torturing them.
I just don't understand it. And when I say "buy your friends" I am not kidding down here. Being in a frat is 15% more than tuition per semester. We are talking about thousands of dollars a semester. And most don't even live in the house.
If you'll see the other post, you will also see why I don't like frat boys. Most of them are cowards |
In short, it's like Jt09 said, there is a reason for the stereotype. I know some great guys that were in a Fraternity. But the die hard "frat guys" can eat satan's dick for all I care. |

No, I meant whether or not it was worth joining. Not whether or not frat guys were tools, every frat in every college across the nation has some tools. I was refering to whether or not one should join the tools and once again, it depends on the school and the frat. Some frats suck at some schools and are cool at others... _________________ Spread the stoke. |

Around the south, at Auburn, frats are big, but not that big, but at University of alabama, the frats and soroities there, control the SGA, and pretty much the whole college, search "the machine" on wikipedia.
I don't plan on joining one in college, mainly because when i was sworn to secrecy i'd laugh at them and walk out. I just don't really care much for "tradition." |

WakeboardDrumma, dont you want to get spanked? a special secret handshake?
A paddle to hang in your office once you get that big job?
I was helping my bro move a few boxes out of his parents house, I came across his paddle.
I couldnt stop laughing and tried to beat him with it!
At the my school everyone had GDI in greek letters on the shirts! It was funny as hell. _________________ www.integrity-wake.com

Not in a million years! I understand the benefit of connections for the career but the price of admission far outweighs that benefit. |

Nah, just bitter because they wanted me to be the "face guy." I had way more to offer than just that. Made me feel somewhat violated. |

lcap, Classic!
jt09, I'm not saying it was this way when you were in Sig Ep, hell my brother is a Sig Ep and he's not this way at all, but from what I've seen at my school and what I've been able to gather from my friends at all different schools, Sig Eps are currently the definition of "popped collar" frat-boys.
haugy, I had some friends who went Sigma Chi, My father-in-law and brother-in-law are both Sigma Chi and I got a lot of pressure to join it, but they hazed like crazy, and there is no way I would have put up with that. I would have ended up being kicked out for not taking their sh it.
As for me I had a pretty unique experience, I was a founding father of a fraternity on my campus, so I never had to put up with anything from anyone. After a few years on campus we had the reputation of being the looser/geeky group. Fine by me, I had a hell of a time with all of those guys, I love hanging out with the geeky guys, we were kind of the anti-fraternity fraternity. For instance, this was written about us on a blog site run by students of our school. The article was titled "which frat should I join"
| Quote: | Beta Theta Pi
Oh hell no. If Lord of the Rings and Dungeons and Dragons joined a frat, Beta Theta Pi would be it. There's really no point in trashing Beta because it would be like beating up Stephen Hawking after he just wet himself......in front of 20 girls. If you really do want to join, you need to know that members of Beta include "that nice guy in High School that hasn't lost his virginity yet because he just hasn't found the right girl" to "that weird socially retarded film major that stares at you while you go pee." Jesus christ dude by all means, stay away...... stay far far away. | |

| Bowen, you do realize that fraternities vary GREATLY from college to college, right? When we had our big Tri State Softball Tourney every year, it was SWT, Tech, aggy and Loyola hanging out, UT thinking their shlt didn't stink (they WERE the epitome of the popped collar clowns - even before popping collars was around) , and a bunch of tools. |

jt09, was that almost a compliment directed at A&M? Apparently, your experiences with Aggie frats differed greatly from mine; I've yet to meet one that I thought would be cool to hang with. The friends I've known who went into frats had their weaknesses and holes in their self-esteem exposed in a hurry. They went from cool dudes to drunk, fight-in-packs, douchebag, a-holes who skipped classes to get high and throw bottlles and yell at random people. Frats here generally suck. One of the guys quit his frat and is now back to being a chill, stand-up dude. Funny how that works. _________________ "I'm scared if I stop drinking all at once, the cumulative hangover will literally kill me." |
