|

I landed my first back roll the other day... it feels great to have done it but i'm not sure if its a real back roll or not. To me it looks like my board is to far behind me and not above me while i'm rotating. What do you guys think?

Thats the only time i've been able to land it. I get around everytime and land on my board but always fall when my board hits the water. Heres a video of what i'm talking about...

Anyone have any suggestions to help stick the landing? |

Thats definitely a backroll in my opinion. However, I don't know what to say to help you with the landings... Just keep trying. _________________ Wake Forest University |

| You've got them pretty good. Pin the handle to your front (left) hip. You're opening up a little on the landing which is making you fall IMO. You're really close. Keep trying them. Also, this won't help on the landings but try taking a shorter cut at it. I bet you could build more line tension. More line tension = higher pop, spin faster. |

Nice backroll!
I agree with jpminter. You need to put the handle more to your front hip and hold the handle more with your front hand.
I think your edging is fine. Don't worry about the distance, if you feel comfortable with it and get the pop right every time. Why change something that works well for you? I suggest only change one thing at a time so you don't get confuse of what's wrong and what's right. |

I think the most important thing you can do to make yourself more consistent is to take a shorter cut. JPMinter is correct. That long approach makes a simple trick like a backroll too difficult. You will be much more controlled on your approach and coming off the wake with a shorter approach. The rest will fall into place. _________________ www.ten-80.com |

yeah man, it looks like backroll to me. For your first backroll, id say thats pretty big. i see guys that barely make it around on there first times landing it. _________________ If there is one thing in this world that doesn't have negatives, that would be wakeboarding. |

You're actually doing them quite close to perfect. That skidding out is a very common problem, and preventing it only comes with time. It's a little tricky to get the timing down to stop your rotation as your board is coming around, but untucking you legs and letting the handle out are good ways to stop it. Just keep doing them, and you'll get it. once it's in you mind that you can consitently land them, you'll be able to hit them every time. _________________

| Thanks for all the comments and suggestions! I haven't been able to get on the water since I landed it so I haven't been able to try what you guys have said. Can't wait to get out there though and hopefully start landing them consistently. Also some guy on youtube commented on the first video when i land it saying it was a mexican backroll and not a regular one? Does that sound right? |

| I've tried to do what all you guys have said and its helped quite a bit. I Just landed two in a row yesterday and have landed it twice more today so I think i'm starting to get them consistently. I tried a tantrum for the first time today also and ended up taking a knee to the chin and busted it open pretty bad. I'm going to have to keep it dry for a few days but i'm stoked to get back out there again and hopefully keep landing backrolls and maybe even get the tantrum down. Again thanks for the advice guys it helped a ton. |

That landed one was awesome!
I'm STILL trying to land and hang on to mine.
My suggestion- on landing, try more heel cut. The idea in my head is that it would but a little more tension on the rope and keep the board from continuing to nose forward and slide away from you. |
