I went to Austin on Friday to buy this boat. It is a 1986 Supra Saltare 23' . It has a 454 big block in it and runs like a champ. I have spend the whole weekend getting the old graphics off and buffing the gel coat. I have also replaced the tackometer and bilge pump. The interior needs new bottom cushions and the carpet needs to be replaced. Other than that it is really good shape this thing also has a LOT of storage. I picked it up for $6500.

wow, that things got a deep keel. Put some weight in that beast and you'll have wakes bigger than most beaches.

the Saltare is a tank...literally ....that thing will throw a hell of a wake with how deep the hull is and you can put a ton of weight in it w/ a 454 behind it...nice find

Congrats again man, post up some wake pics when you get her loaded.
And welcome to the club.

ontrider, good call. Probably right. I'd guess the rope tied to it is to get the back of the boat in a tent shape so water doesn't pool.

goofyboy, Yea but she hasn't even seen it yet. She is coming back from NY tonight. Suprise look what I bought.
haugy, It was in the same condition as he said. It will probably cost me about $1000 to get the interior really nice. The really like the size the extra 2' makes a difference.
ontrider, Exactly, I took it off after the picture. I'll probably take a piece of PVC and put it over the ski pole for the same affect but easier to remove.
My goal is to have 2000 lbs of ballast in this boat all hidden. I am going to have to do a lot of mods to do that but I think it is possible.

You should be able to at least get 1750lbs hidden. I know that for a fact. Hiding a 750lb in the bow, and two 500lbs in the backs. Might have to get creative with some more.
It looks much better without the stripes!
BTW something I do for my cover (for anyone else as well) I bought a plastic storage bin from Walmart. Kind of big, almost the size of a large rolling cooler. I set it on my engine hatch, and not a drop pools together. When I uncover the boat, the cover goes in the bin and right in the back of my truck. This makes it portable and easy to carry. And in case I come into a downpour somewhere I can throw to cover on real quick.

Not to be a party pooper but the wake will not be that great.
My buddy has that same boat, same trailer and everything.
We couldn't get a good wake surf wake out of it either. I think we stopped at 1200lbs or something and gave up.
It was ride-able just not surf worthy IMO....
Disclaimer: we are comparing my buddies boat (your Supra) to my SANTE so it's not a fair comparison.
For the money that is a great wake boat and should provide a decent sized wake for most people doing a few spins and inverts.
Looks good and clean, you should get many years out of it.

J_DOGG, don't take this the wrong either, but you're wrong. The wake on these is immense. Is it a 210 wake, no probably not. But it is by no means small.
1200lbs is not alot for a boat of this size. This is a 23' footer. My friend has the same hull in his boat. Stock wake is not so good, at 1000lbs you might notice a difference, at 1500lbs you're doing real good. When you put 2000lbs in it, holy crap. It cleans up, and stiffens up to a sharp lip that will buck you way out there.

They will be 2 completely different wakes. Out of all the inboards I have ridden I like the SAN wakes the least.

I gotta agree, 1200lbs isn't alot for a boat of that size and hull depth. Especially for surfing. I've got that much just in one corner for surfing. Another 350 up front + peoples.
I bet it will do great with the right amount of weight.

I am going to take it out Wednesday for a trial run. I am not going to run any ballast and I am going to leave the wakeplate flat to get a baseline and make sure it runs good. I think I can put one of those triangle fat sacs under the storage compartment in the front and a 500 lb sack in the rear ski locker and a 500 at the rear seat and then start playing with the wakeplate.

Here is a wake pic at 21 mph. It cleans up a lot more at 22. I have a 1000 lb ballast bag in the front hidden under the front seats and 200 lbs in the rear ski locker with 5 adults in the boat. I doubt I will put much more ballast in there it is plenty for my level of riding.

| Nice! Looks like you might be a little heavy on the forward weight (1k lbs and judging by the pic). Maybe try doubling the weight in the back. (I would say at least match the front weight but you have people in the back too). Doing that would get you a vert of a wake I bet (if thats what you like) but you may have to bump the speed up 1-2 mph to get it nice and clean. If youre happy with it now though, might not be worth the trouble, but something to try if youd like.

vette74, WOW! great looking boat. Looks like it can definitely throw a great wake.
Also if you are interested in bringing the gel coat back to more like-new, Vertglas will return it practically to original condition. I have used it restoring the gel coat on several older boats, and the owners always say it looks the same as the day they got it. It doesn't just make it shine again, it also restores the color very well, and you don't have to use the buffer.

Thanks matt1808, I'll try that. So far I have replaced the plywood flooring and carpet, fixed all the gauges that didn't work, installed a stereo and the best part I have already put 30+ hours on it since I bought it in August.

| vette74, boats looking good man. You'll love that wake once you dial it in. Just for a tip, you haven't exploited it's full potential yet. But if it's good for you now, just know that when you progess, the boat can progress with you.
