jt09, what's this I hear about a texas scandal, paying players and whatnot? I heard the forums are deleting stuff right and left trying to clear any suspicion.

Wakebrad, If HF.com is deleting stuff, they are doing it at lightspeed, because I haven't seen a single thing over there and I think you know how much I am on that site!
What I have heard, and it's totally from ag and sooner fans, is that a TX booster is being investigated by the IRS for trying to write off a "donation" he gave to a UT WR. Think the timeframe is somewhere in the late 90s/early 00s.
Like I said though, I haven't seen even a single thing about it on HF. It's my understanding that the rumor first appeared on texags and then ouinsider picked it up.
EDIT:
Just talked to a bud who is WAY more dialed in than I am and he's heard nothing at all along those lines. Worst thing going on right now is that Billy Pittman didn't pay a ticket of some kind and there was some speculation going on, but it turned out to just be a college kid not paying a ticket. Go figure.
Doesn't rule out the other deal, just telling you what I am hearing.

jt09, yeah, I think what I heard was about Billy Pittman. It didn't sound like there was much to it though. This was a few days ago.

Saying on ESPN radio right now that a +1 game is a done deal. Thinking 2011.
Here is his article.
http://www.nypost.com/seven/07172007/sports/a_football_final_four_sports_lenn_robbins.htm
July 17, 2007 -- NEWPORT, R.I. - The question has changed from, "Will There Ever Be a College Football National Championship Game?" to "How Soon Will It Happen?"
Sources in several conference offices, athletic directors and television networks told The Post that support is steadily growing for a "Plus-1," format in which there will be a national championship game following the playing of two "semifinal games."
The first title game could be played in 2011.
"There haven't been any official discussions among conference commissioners, but the overwhelming sense is that that's where we're headed," one conference source said. "There's simply too much money at stake and there's been too much debate with the current system."
Under the new format, the top four teams would be seeded, probably using a voter/computer formula similar to the current BCS system and a sixth major bowl game would be created.
The four top-seeded teams would play in two "semifinal" games, using the existing bowls - Orange, Sugar, Rose, Fiesta and the current BCS title game on a rotating basis - with the two winners meeting in a newly created bowl. Theoretically, it would leave less argument over who's No. 1.
"You'll probably never eliminate all the debate, but it's hard for me to imagine a team finishing fifth in the final ratings having a legitimate argument for No. 1," an ACC athletic director said. "Once you get below four, it's a hard sell."
According to several sources, no existing bowl, such as the Cotton, Gator or Outback, would be transformed into the championship game because no conference wants to lose an existing postseason opportunity for its member teams.
The money, more than fixing the current system which has led to almost annual debate over which team truly is No. 1, is the driving force behind the "Plus-1," format.
The BCS recently signed a four-year, $84 million deal with FOX that runs through the 2010 bowl games. The Rose Bowl signed a separate eight-year, $300 million deal with ABC which runs through 2014.
After a huge controversy ensued following the 2004 season, when undefeated Auburn didn't get a chance to play for the national championship, Bodog.com, a sports casino poker site, offered $50 million to sponsor a championship game. The offer was rejected, but that number left many in the college football business salivating.
"There's not going to be a playoff so you can forget that," said one TV executive who is attending the Big East Conference media gathering here. "But a 'Plus-1' is going to happen - sooner rather than later."
For a "Plus-1" to happen, the Rose Bowl would have to be willing to loosen its grip on matching the top Big Ten and Pac-10 representatives. That is considered the biggest stumbling block.
When the Rose Bowl announced its deal with ABC, the BCS was forced to make several concessions, including waiving the league's $6 million BCS entry fee.
The BCS also assured the Rose Bowl that it could retain its Big Ten/Pac-10 alliance, agreed not to require the Rose to accept a team from a non-BCS conference (think Boise St.) and guaranteed that the nation's oldest bowl game would keep its coveted late-afternoon time slot on New Year's Day.
"There's a lot of history in that game with those conferences," one source said. "I understand their position. But I think a 'Plus-1' is inevitable."

WTF are you talking about? You mean the Pac-10 doesn't play the same game as the SEC? $hit, at least speak english.

jryoung, "his" team. Doubtful he played and college ball. He would have to be Joe fricking Montana to slide by with such poor grammar AND keep the scholarship.

chavez, you'd be suprised how many people slide by in a top program. I can still remember Bob Sapp at practice. "Hey who's in my socioliogy class, anybody done the homework?" Or Lawyer Milloy wondering why he never saw me at the tutor.

jryoung, oh I am not saying that. Just saying that you do need to be capable of the basics, and unfortunately, weatherford07 is either not capable, or hammered, or both!

haha, I know. I can give them a hard time but Lawyer has won a few Superbowl and been to the ProBowl. Bob played a few seasons, the last I saw of him was in the remake of The Longest Yard. Both those guys were pretty cool, and downright hilarious at practice.

Eight of the 20 worst teams in D1A were by SEC teams for a total of 11 games last year.
Why don't you go pose in front of the camera with your RoNiX OnE WaKeBoArD. Remember to push your biceps out, too.
In other news- fUCLA's recievers coach was arrested on suspicion of burglary. He and two others were let out on $50K bail.

jryoung, did you play at UW or part of the team in some other function? I hear what you are saying about people getting by. I'm friends w/ several UT baseball players and acquainted w/ several football and hoops players and a couple of them are easily the dumbest people w/ degrees I've ever met.

I come back from Europe to find my favorite annual WB.com discussion already 3 pages deep!
IMO, Sept 1 can't get here soon enough, and I will be happily drinking beer and eating bratwurst as I enjoy my first Camp Randall experience as WSU gives it the old college try against a tough Wisconsin team. Probably no hope of winning, but I know I'll have fun either way, like I did last year at Auburn.
I'm out of the loop and need to catch up with the preseason news before I can add anything substantial to the discussion.
But I will say....
1. Autzen >>> Husky Stadium. I've been to both, in good weather and bad, and I've seen my team lose and win in both. I am biased (obviously), but I am equally biased because I hate the Ducks as much as I hate the Huskies.
2. This is a woman who gets it. (Although I question her judgment a little because a. she's a USC fan, and b. she married a guy who isn't as into football as her.) Whenever I have kids, they will be receiving a similar memo.
3. And a total WTF moment for me was hearing about this: WSU playing ND in San Antonio???? Is this really good for either ND, or whatever dumby wumby team it convinces to do it? (Yes, WSU AD, I'm talking to you)

But man, the gators suck, Tim Teabag, cant run the ball up the middle every other play. He will get hurt sooner or later. You cant have a pure "strong" running QB in the SEC.

Actually it's had over 80,000 people in it a few times. Just going to go ahead and correct you on that one before he does. I think it will be a much better game this year, however Tennesse is still going to come out on top.

McQuesten1- look at what he's said and ask yourself if correcting his posts is really worth your (or anyone's) time? I'm surprised you missed the part about how he thinks the game is on the 2nd.
5 weeks till Week 1.

Oh you're right, being a freshman and a 2nd string QB, throwing 22-33 for 360 yards and 5 TD's & 3300+ yards in ONE season in HS isnt good at all
Nope he can't throw the ball
it actually makes me mad that they never let him throw
scott a, you're right he isn't worth anyones time but I had to throw those stats out there

One-Pete.
Look, I like to argue about CFB as much (OK, kinda more) as the next guy, but the whole conference pissing match is the weakest, most played out, tired "debate" there is. I've seen it a billion times on a billion different message boards and you can spin any numbers to fit your needs.
Lay off the conference smack talk. Or at least try to do it w/o acting like jackasses.

Scary thing is there are a couple guys in the office that make JR look tiny in comparison. JR did play for UW, unfortunately some guy named Lawyer Milloy played the same position.

best player of the coming season has been decided, DARREN MCFADDEN. Easy money on that one.
jt09, and just so you know before sounding like a jackass yourself, USC is not likely to one-pete. They brought in the #1 and #2 runningbacks this recruiting season in Joe McKnight and Marc Tyler, #1 Linebacker with Chris Galippo and if I'm right didn't Mitch Mustain transfer to Southern Cal as well? And that is just a few of the terrors they posses. Oh and just for fun CJ GABLE is only a sophomore. Aaron Corp QB from Orange Lutheran Div. 2 CIF State Champs is an incoming freshman, seems like they will one-pete, pause, NOT!

jt09 has a hard on for USC too. Doubt he's going to disagree with any recruiting talk. USC has been cleaning up. It is a safe bet to say that someone is not going to win back to backs, which is damn near impossible despite the coaching and talent.
