no argument here that the SEC have insane stadium atmospheres.
I just feel that Autzen(small but LOUD) and Husky Stadium(Big and LOUD) rank in the upper levels of home crowds. _________________ Is President Obama a Keynesian? |

Husky stadium loud? The first row of seats is half a mile from the sideline and the construction of the stadium is terrible for noise retention. I don't see how that could be considered "loud" no matter how loud the fans are. |

specifically
Because of its size and design (70% of the seats are located between the end zones) and the vociferous nature of Huskies fans, the stadium is considered one of the loudest in North America, _________________ Is President Obama a Keynesian? |

During a 1992 game against Nebraska, ESPN measured the crowd noise at 135 decibels--well above the threshold of pain.[ _________________ Is President Obama a Keynesian? |

The rolly eyes is because you provided "proof" via wiki...you don't think a UW grad wrote that?
No I haven't been there, but I have seen pics and I have been in probably a dozen different college stadiums. The crowd may in fact be raucous and loud, but w/ the distance between the fans and the field, along w/ the design of the stadium, there's minimal impact to the players. Just because it's loud and fun in the stands, doesn't make it intimidating or irritating to the players on the field.
I don't buy the 135 decibels either. LSU and Clemson fight back and forth constantly over who has the loudest stadium. I know LSU has been measured at 121 and registered on a seismograph (sp) at the geology building. |

Dude. You are fighting a battle you can't win. There are MAYBE 10 places in the country where crowd noise is a factor in the game. Washington is not one of those places. |

Really. I have been to probably 50 games at UT and I can think of maybe 3 games where the crowd has been a factor. You know, the stadium tied w/ Husky Stadium in your rankings there. Never mind that Husky fans have a national reputation as a wine and cheese crowd.
Any rankings that have Pyle Field ranked w/ a 9 for architecture has serious flaws to begin w/. That place is loud as hell when fans show up, but it's a concrete monstrosity w/ zero aesthetic appeal. It looks like a giant tacklebox.
Geesh.....WAY to early in the summer for this.... |

Penatlies for OU just handed down. Fairly light, but what do you expect from the NCAA?
INDIANAPOLIS — The Oklahoma football team will vacate all of its wins from the 2005 season as punishment for major violations, the NCAA Committee on Infractions announced today.
Aside from the vacated wins, OU's penalties.
• Two additional years of probation, extended the period through 2010.
• The loss of two scholarships through the 2009-10 season.
• A reduction by one of the number of coaches who can recruit off campus.
• A public reprimand and censure.
• A disassociation with the dealership manager for five years. |

Vacated wins? So, does that mean that they did not play an entire season? Does that change the UT record? _________________ Work SUX! |

And aggy - this doesn't mean you won the 05 game. Those 8 Ws for OU are simply erased from the record books like they never happened. They do get to keep the 4 Ls though, which was nice of the NCAA.
SBueno - I'm not sure about the CB renovations, but about once a month a thread pops up on HF.com about it, so I'll update once I see it. |

jt09, the sanctions today seem kinda out there to me... It's almost like when we found out about Bomar and Quinn we should have just said whatever and suspended them instead of kicking them off the team and imposing sanctions on ourselves (even though I was happy to see Bomar go). There was no point of OU going through its own investigation and placing sanctions on ourselves. We would have been better off not cooperating and not being proactive and informing the NCAA of wrong doing. Not that it really matters though.
My question is if this is the penalty for two players taking in a combined 15K and eventually paying it back... what happens to Reggie Bush and USC? Is it alright that his family takes $100k+? |

senorbueno, you are much better doing your own leg work and punishing yourself than acting indignant. Stoops and Castiglione absolutely did the right thing. They didn't have to boot Bomar, but knowing Stoops, I'd bet he was one visor throwing fool when all that came down. Look at how Bama handled the Means case and how bad they got whacked. It's a tiny slap on the wrist. It affects nothing more than Bob's overall coaching record, so I wouldn't sweat it at all. Hornfans is all up in arms over it, even though everyone knew nothing was going to come of it.

Pete does run a clean program, but he had a dirty player. Unless Bush or the marketing company comes clean, it's going to be tough for the NCAA to do anything. Still the worst thing they would do is the same thing they did to OU. Strip the 2005 wins and leave USC w/ a 0-1 record for that year. The lack of cooperation by Bush and the guys that gave him the $$/house is the reason the NCAA's hands are tied right now. |

That's exactly my point, but that whole situation is a huge mess that will probably just get forgotten about
I know in the grand scheme of things, that the penalty doesn't really hurt us, I was just surprised that they came down with that punishment, I thought if they were going to actually do something we would be in an Alabama situation, or they would go the other route and just extend the probation... this is like a weird in between. I am curious though if we have to give back the money we earned from the Holiday bowl against Oregon? not that it really matters |
