jt09, I never said they should get some sort of gold star. They made their bed and they have to lie in it. Nobody is arguing otherwise.
The pass was intercepted at the Ore 15. You are correct, the line of scrimmage was the 33, the INT came at the 15.

The big stories of the day:
Pete Carroll maybe headed to the Falcons w/ full control?
Mallett is transferring away from UM for sure. Arky, UCLA and aggy are the top 3.
Arrington and Manningham are going pro.
OU DE Demarcus Granger is on the lam after missing his court date in AZ for stealing a coat while on his bowl trip. Bob Stoops promptly named him captain for the 08 season.
From yesterday:
Texas TE Jermichael Finley is headed to the pros. HUGE loss for TX. HUGE. |

wes reeves, Shipley doesn't have 2 kids to feed, so I doubt that's going to happen. Besides, WR is the most loaded position at UT. RB and TE, not so much. |

The report I saw seemed to indicate that Tennessee might be Mallet's top choice - if they hire his former OC and QB coach. _________________

Martellus is going pro too. Huge blow to our already depleting O-line. Sherman and Co will have to live up to their reputation of O-line development because there are going to be some youngsters playing next year.
I'm impressed with the recruiting he has done so far. Pretty much kept everyone on board and added a couple stud recruits with a couple more thinking about it. Fuller was one we needed. _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |

Wakebrad, I'm glad 'tellus was able to get out of our program under Fran with almost as much potential as he came in with. I really feel like Goodson, Lane (if he'd get himself in shape) and McGee could have been great if they'd been in a different program. |

Sweed is gone, but that was known a while back, so I didn't include it. Cosby and Shipley are the 2 top guys returning, which is fine w/ me - those guys are both studs. However, there's a ton of talent waiting in the wings and several big time studs (Dan Buckner and DJ Monroe - both had TDs in the national all star games this weekend) coming in as frosh. I'll never worry about that position at TX. If anything, I think they overrecruit that position to the detriment of other positions.
I did see Tenn as a possibility for Mallett - don't know why I spaced that. I think he's going to Arky. Almost signed w/ them out of HS and Petrino may be a c*cksucker, but he is a QB maker.
I'm going to miss Holla! He's probably the only aggy I've REALLY liked, personality wise in forever. Dude's just funny as all hell. Calling his brother half-retarded cracked me up, as did teabagging Fran at the basketball game. Dude had his own website for a while w/ a message board and he actually ran it and posted all the time. Guy is freakin hilarious. |

Fayetteville needs a good QB to come in. I know very little about Petrino, though. Looks like next season's shaping up to be very interesting around here, one way or another. _________________

Arky is apparently dropping recruits like flies because of Petrino. Something like 4 or 5 already and they specifically cited not knowing if he was going to be there when they graduated. |

It's on ESPN.com. Very interesting if he takes the position.
I wonder if Norm Chow would consider coming back to USC. _________________
8824, dude - I suck. You were right.
. |

Not gonna happen. He makes far too much money and has far too much of a good thing to go to ATL.
Blank would have to give him an unprecedented amount of money to make that move. Highest paid NFL coach kind of scratch, and give up all control. If Blank is that desperate, he has lost all of his business sense and is working on emotion. Just don't see it.
I agree that NC will not be a HC. Even at Hawaii. He is a specialist and is in his specialty. He may go elsewhere as a OC, but that is all I see. _________________

I'd love to see NC go somewhere, anywhere else. But in reality, it's more likely Jeff Fisher behind that offense being so ultra conservative. |

For Carroll I don't think it would necessarily come down to the money. The only reason you leave SC is for the challenge. The money is too good where he's at and not worth leaving SoCal. Of course he'd want to have total control over the situation. I would be surprised if he left but the reports are saying he's at least listening, which surprises me already. _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |

jt09, hmm, I don't think I'd call a PC raise "undeserved" given his track record.
He is a commodity, and USC should pay market value plus incentives to keep him. They make stupid $$ off of that football program.
Last I heard, he made about 1.5m/yr at SC. _________________

Just stirring the pot:
With the 32-game bowl season now complete, and LSU having vanquished Ohio State to wear the champion’s crown, it’s time to add up the postseason’s winners and losers,
Winner: SEC
Not only did the SEC capture its second straight BCS title, the league had a 7–2 overall bowl record, the best winning percentage among the six BCS conferences. SEC backers have always felt the BCS system was unfair to their conference, punishing it for playing a tough conference schedule. This year, with LSU becoming the first-ever two-loss national champion, you can put that myth to rest. The good times should keep on rolling. Georgia looks like a potential preseason no. 1, LSU has enough talent to overcome graduations and early entries to the NFL, and Florida returns with the Heisman Trophy winner at quarterback.
Loser: Big Ten
It was another rough bowl campaign for the Big Ten, which sent a pair of teams to BCS games, only to have both beaten handily for a second straight year. The conference continues to fight perception that its teams are slow. Off the field, the Big Ten Network has struggled to find wide distribution on cable TV.

I dont know if it will happen but I dont really think it is a stupid move. Im from Atlanta and Arthur blank is a legend around here. Everything, and yes I do mean everything, he touches turns to gold. Within 5 years the Falcons will be back and contending for a Superbowl spot...Arthur cant stand to fail and he will pour...no dump money into the Falcons until they succeed. I really have no desire to have Carroll as the head coach but I cant imagine that he wouldnt mind adding a bunch of extra loot in his pocket and a run at the SB within 5 years.... _________________ You know you own someone when you can agitate them enough to quote you in their signature. |

Quote: | I cant imagine that he wouldnt mind adding a bunch of extra loot in his pocket and a run at the SB within 5 years.... |
He'd need that long just to get that place right again. ATL is all jacked up right now. Not as bad as MIA, but it's pretty horrible over there. If Petrino was willing to hop the midnight train AWAY from Georgia, what would make a "write his own ticket" coach like Carroll want in? I'm telling you, it would take an unprecedented salary, tons of guarantees, full control, and large incentives if he were to succeed.
On top of that, you have to talk him out of a place where he pulls #1 talent in multiples. In the ATL, he might get one #1 a year. USC has #1's all over the damn field!
I didn't say I thought it was a stupid move, at least not for PC - simply because the deal for him would have to be unbelievably sweet. Arthur Blank OTOH, would be stupid, unless PC worked some magic and made that team a SB contender within the first few years. IMO, it would be a large and not well thought out gamble. _________________

jumalian, if the NCAA got solid dirt and came down with punishment, I'd expect PC to leave. Not because he has to or he should, but because he would have nothing to gain by staying. _________________

I wouldn't want PC as an NFL HC. No way in hell. Some people are CFB coaches, and some are NFL coaches. PC is a CFB guy, through and through.
The ATL is way F*ed up and bringing in a college guy and giving him the entire show to run is a horrible approach to fixing it. Blanks can throw all the money in the world at the problem, but until he throws that money in the right direction, it won't help a damn thing. |

jt09, I agree that PC is a CFB guy now, but his stint in the NFL wasn't all bad. Didn't he bring your Pats to the playoffs two out of the three years he was there?

chavez...I dont disagree with you that it would take a lot of loot..I just dont think that it would be that bad of a play for him. Maybe I am "insane" but I see the Falcons being back before 5 years. I dont think I am "insane" when I say that I wouldnt want Carroll as a head NFL coach...If memory serves me right he has already coached in the NFL and didnt have a stellar performance..Keep me honest here but wasnt that why he went back to CFB? I wonder if PC has something to prove in the NFL..Either way its speculation until the papers are inked..
Record PC in NFL
Jets
First season 6-10 then fired
Patriots
First season 10-6,
Second Season 9-7
Third Season 8-8
Fired _________________ You know you own someone when you can agitate them enough to quote you in their signature. |
