So, as long as the water is semi smooth I can spin from normal to switch without issue, but whenever I go to change back I end up with slack in the line and I either lean back too far to try to get tension and the board slips out in front of me causing some genitalia crushing, or the slack gets taken up by the boat and I get pulled over on my face. Either way is not remotely the desired result. Anyone have any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong? Sorry, I have no video, as it is difficult for the wife to drive and record Smile

When first getting up, and the boat is still trying to plain, try it then to get the feel for it. Lean away, not to much. It also helps to take off the fins.

Next time you're trying the surface 180's concentrate on your hands rather than your feet. Consciously think about moving the handle from your leading hip to your rear hip. This is what will bring the board around.

Obviously you need to be conscious of your edge as well to avoid the dreaded faceplant, but it is the hands that really control the rotation of the board.

It helps to slow the boat down to around 15 mph or so when practicing surface stuff. The falls hurt much, much less. Mr. Green

just try to remember the feeling of your 180 to switch and do the same back. you don't need to lean really far back, just enough so that you don't faceplant. i also finds it helps to do surface 180's on your toeside edge.
