I was just wondering if there's such things or if it's even possible to kiteboard using a wakeboard? (not a kiteboard) I was just thinking about it because unfortunately I do not own a boat, so I have to get pulled by my friend. Anyways, I was thinking when I can't go down to her marina or she is working, if I could kiteboard with a wakeboard. It will be a little more more for the kite, but hopefully my friend can tow me when I finally get my new wakeboard and bindings this summer. I was just wondering about the whole Kiteboarding & Wakeboarding thing. [/b] _________________ ...Wahoo!

I've seen it done in some videos. you should have no problem using your wakeboard, just might need to adjust to the smaller board _________________ http://www.integrity-wake.com

If you have like a 138 or 142 board, you should have no problems.
Just put some big surf style fins on, and remember to wash your board. _________________ Terminate high thinking |

| When I first saw it on some older video, I think it was Lou Wainman(sp??) who was doing it on an LF board. |

Russian... Are you sure there is kitesurfing in Switch 22? I've seen it like a million times and i think they take some jetski's out on the wave's, but I can't remember any kitesurfing.....
Maybe my memory is worse than I....... remember. _________________ Terminate high thinking |

i rekon kiteboarding with a wakeboard is heaps better. personally i dont like those kite boards how they are wierd shapes and stuff. just a nice, small wakeboard would do me jsut fine.
if only i had the $1200 to buy a kite........... _________________ hey, wow, i have a signature |

My friend brought his kiteboard to the cable park this past weekend. It rides sooo smoothly over the chop and has great edging. Expensive as hell, though.
Learning to use a wakeboard with a kite is one thing, getting the kite up and moving is another. You will definitely need to take lessons. My friend took a weekend lesson and its not nearly enough. Right now he'd be content with getting the kite up for a body drag. I suggest getting a trainer kite first you can fly on land. BTW, the weather can really mess things up. Experts suggest getting 3, yes THREE different sized kites for changing wind conditions. My friend has just one 4liner and its way too big for the strong winds we're having now. I now know lines getting tangled in the water can set you back an hour.
I don't mean to be a downer on this, but it could cost more than just getting a kite. But the thing is, if you're really into it like my friend, go for it. |

I've been kiteboarding for about a year a half now and I'm seeing some things that don't really sound right. Yes you can use your wakeboard, even the Parks 138. The only thing is that the more rocker in a board the more drag that is created and the harder it will be to go upwind, you'll still be able to go upwind , just not as fast as everyone else thats out on the water with you.
As for the expense it really isn't all that bad. sure if you want to get all the new stuff you'll pay top dollar, but if you get some used gear thats in good condition you can pay way less. For example I just got the new 16.5m Liquid Force Tension kite and now will be getting rid of my 15m Flight Kite for around $400.00 to whoever wants to buy it. Thats like buying a new wakeboard and you'll get to ride in winds from 10 to 16 mph depending on your weight. If you go look on E-bay or search for kite classifieds on google you'll find all sorts of kites for cheap prices, even boards, harnesses, and control bars. The sport really isn't that expensive when you think that to wakeboard each time you have to gas up the boat and if you don't live on a lake you have to gas up the truck each time. Once you buy all your equipment you get to ride for free for hours at a time, not 20 to 40 minutes at a time and then wait for the rotation to go around.
In the beginning you will get frustrated and you probably curse the entire sport, but I know times when I've been so fed up with wakeboarding that I called it a day and drove the boat or enjoyed a few beers while watching everyone else. Tangled lines can be a bitch but its a part of the sport and really not that big of a deal. BUt after you boost higher than you ever have off the double up when you are riding off of flat water you'll be hooked and keep wanting more and more.
Oh yeah and if you are going to get a kite to learn on get a bigger one around 15m so you can learn in the lighter winds and you won't get your ass handed to you every time you go out. |
