| Like the thread says, do you have to be good at skateboarding to be good at wakeskating? I have a pretty strong background in wakeboarding, and I'm looking to maybe try my hand at wakeskating since my shoulder is completely boned and I'm too stubborn to get surgery. I suck at skateboarding. I can ollie but thats about it. So am I pretty much going to suck it up at wakeskating then? |

Agreed. I'm a decent skater, and a terrible wakeskater, I think your background in wakeboarding will be much more useful.
If your shoulder's boned, I don't see how wakeskating will be better, you're still getting tugged by the rope. |

Yeah, maybe wakesurfing would be a better route. _________________

My shoulder injury is an interesting one. The reason wakeboarding is more detrimental is because it involves more play of your shoulder i.e. spins, flips, etc. When you're 8 ft in the air, your arms can fly pretty much anyway possible...so the falls can be just as worse for the shoulders. My shoulder basically dislocates or pops out of its socket. Both are pretty messed up, however my left one is the worst so I have to be sure to constantly be doing exercises to strengthen the weakness, my rotator cuff. Its unfortunate, because I'm too stubborn to get surgery, and I really don't want to take time off for physical therapy, no gauruntee of it never happening again, and the time I need off (job is too demanding right now for a vacation). So there ya have it...my reasons to jump ship to wakeskating. |
