| Ive been boarding for about a year now and ive gotten the w2w jump down. i really want to start trying 360's and backrolls. i guess my question is.. should i just go out there, grow a pair and just try them or would you recommend trampoline work? do most people just wing it or what? would you recommend a helmet? |

Can you go w2w toeside/heelside/switch ts/switch hs?
I know this isn't the answer you want to hear but if you can do all of those solid before attempting a backroll you will be a much better rider.
If you can jump, I would just go for the 360...but make sure you commit: the falls will hurt a lot more if you don't
and maybe try some surface spins to get the handle pass down _________________ Zach |

Aksarben1050, if you are around any sliders or kickers than helmets should definitely be worn. If not, thats sort of a personal preference.

There was a pretty big debate as to whether they help or hurt more when you fall. Some people think the increased surface area would make your head slow down faster when it hits the water, leading to worse concussions. Also, the increased weight might cause more whiplash. Other people think maybe the padding inside with help slow down the head easier.
I can't say either way, and nobody here seemed to have heard of any real tests on it, so it would really be up to you. For what its worth, most pros I see don't wear helmets if there are no objects in the water with them.
Sorry thats not the answer you were looking for. |

Just go out and huck a heelside backroll for the fun of it, a helmet might bring you confidence but isn't completely necessary. It would be better if you learned how to do a solid TS jump first, but we all know you are looking forward to the flippy things
There is nothing wrong with trying a HS backroll, all you really need is a solid hs w2w, so you logically should be able to do it.
Good luck, and of course get it on video |
