|

Got this from another forum, so I am linking the pics here:
SPLASH!
55' Marquis Plunges from Crane
| Quote: | | One of my buddies sent me the attached pics today. They are supposed to be from the MV Rickmers Dalian discharging in the Middle East (Jebel Ali). I don't have any other details. If you check the properties on the photos, they appear to have been shot on the afternoon of March 7th. I have no idea what type of boat it was or the name of it, but thought the other forum members might find them interesting |
Added pics because there are so many people looking at this thread the server is overloaded, takes 5 minutes for the pics.
LINK TO THE THREAD TO DISCUSS IF CHOPPED OR NOT:

And another:
This crane failed as it was hoisting a 72ft Sunseeker Predator from a vessel 100ft up. The crane tipped over, and boom!!!

OH NO!!!
What a beautiful boat. Can you even imagine what that would be like. Waiting for your boat to be built, then when they go to drop it in the water.....ruined! Just in time for Summer!!!!
OUCH....

jjaszkow, I wish it was mine. That'd mean I could've bought it in the first place, and somebody's insurance would have me a new one!
I just love the transition from the first to second pics:
Everything's peachy, beautiful boat just going to gently float down onto the water, and
BLAM! 30' splash as she takes a nosedive into the water.
From the first pic, I was really expecting that it just got dropped too fast, but landed upright. And actually, how much worse did that turn out than if she'd capsized while underway? Salvage might not be too bad - you don't even need to raise her. That Sunseeker on the other hand - total loss. That's just sad.

| Have a hard time believing they would allow anyone to ride on the boat while in a sling.

oshensurfer, the people on the main site I got these from did too, they did extensive research as you can read. It's nuts. But in short:
1) It's not uncommon to have someone on the boat. MOST do not do this, but I've seen it, as well as others.
2) Look at the second picture, you can actually see the arm of the second guy, below the first guy falling.
3) Look at the rear wall off in the distance, it's the same shot angle.

haugy, It's just seems like too perfect of a set up/sequence, but I guess it could be real. The crane falling, I've seen happen in pictures on a construction jobsite, so I know that could happen.
