Sorry to start another one of these. But why does a VD/DD tend to throw a better wake than a I/O. Is it the hull designs? The weight placement of motor? Or is there something I'm totally over looking?

Hull designs typically. There is inherently nothing wrong with an I/O as a wakeboard boat, but they're designed to ride smooth through rougher water, which means they're typically a deep V type hull where the hull continues to be a V all the way to the back. The Wake/ski boat on the other hand usually has a flatter bottom in the back which means that:

1) at speed, the wake is flatter for skiing
2) at wake speed, the "hole" it cuts in the water is bigger and more square, creating a steeper wake with less rollover.

hope that makes sense....

Fast351, pretty well said, plus there is no outdrive that lifts the back end of the boat out of the water
