I'm trying to release strees here!!! It's alot easier to read mindless stuff than to go off on a tirade
Something in this helltown is trying to prevent me from leaving!! Electronic sensor just went on in my car and the service ctr moron told me it could be my gas cap!!! To top that off went on to ask for model of SUV , if it ws manual or automatic.....it only comes in MANUAL! |

i enjoyed it phantom. thanks for posting.
If you are talking about the service engine soon light then yeah there is a checklist of about 14-20 things that could cause that light to come on.
here are a few
gascap
airfilter
many checkpoints in exhaust
and many other things.
most of the time its not even worth fixing but good luck with the problem. |

Better to have the crap go bad now than on the road to FLA.
Just giving you crap since the genitic splicer ruined the other fun...
MANUAL? SUV? Check into a Ford or Chevy. Manual tranny is for kids. Bad for towing, lousy in traffic, etc.

leg i have to disagree on the manual thing. even though i drive auto, the manual is better when driven correctly.
better for towing? why are all the semis standard? Not being smart just a serious question. |

Dunno. They aren't, many are switching to auto and semi-auto.
I was informed that auto trannies are MUCH easier on the vehicle for towing. Having burnt out five clutch pads vs. no probs wiht auto trannie, I have to agree. Less slippage when initially starting the load.
I used to like manuals and I still think they are great for sports cars. I just wouldn't want one in a commuter or towing vehicle any more. |

leg good points i tow with auto and never had any trouble.
my parents own a fuel company and all there bobtails are standard and they rarely if ever have to replace transmissions
i would not own a sportscar or jeep that wasnt standard just my own personal opinion
but thanks for the info on the semis going to auto |

The thing with a manual is it is only as good as you are. Automatic's are more idiot proof, but if you drive them low on fluid, bad things man... Also, manual's weigh and cost less.
Phantom,
What year is your SUV?, if it is fairlynew and you have a service engine soon light on, there is probably an error code associated with it. Any reputable dealer or mechanic should easily be able to read it, it will direct you to the problem. You can also buy code readers or find the code manual.
Good Luck,
Nick

auto is better for most applications. If you have sports car or in to some serious wheelin, then a manual is ideal. My brother runs a tow company and most of(if not all) the new trucks are auto(I'm talkin three axle big rigs). also, trying to pull out a boat on a steep ramp is a pain in the arse in a manual tranny. Phantom, it could be the gas cap. All it takes is a small leak, like getting put on wrong or not tight enough. _________________ http://www.integrity-wake.com

Already checked the Gas cap as suggested by another....played with it already...unfortunately not that as of now.
SIR DUMASS: hope that was a diet lemon coke squirting out of those nostrils on to the monitor and keyboard
As to the towing with a manual- the only thing I tow is my lard arse.

Even if it was the gas cap it would still take awhile for the light to go out (couple days). With a 2001 a code scanner should reveal the nature of the problem quick and easy. Don't take it to any shop that is not going to use one.

Also, if you want to spend up the process, it might clear the code (turn the light off) if you disconnect your battery for awhile. Make sure you have all the codes to reset your stereo or alarm if needed. There are a ton of things that could be the problem. If it appears to be running ok, it is probably the fuel cap or an emission control related problem.

If you have a factory alarm, you may not want to disconnect the battery.
Then you may have to reset the alarm via the radio or some such nonsense before the vehicle will start. Our 18 year old found that out putting speaker in AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA! |

Maestro- I happen to like my Pathfinder. It's just he dealership here in town is not "female friendly". I went to a larger city to get this SUV. I just don't have the time to get back down to San Diego for the service at this time. I wouldn't trade it in for an 03 either. It's an 01 model but it has everything I want and need, so why pay for more when I already have it.
Now if I can get it back in time...... |

Yea I was looking at the 96-00 (99.5?) model. They look really nice. Lots of options and not too expensive... how's the gas with it though? That's the only thing that would hold me back from getting one... |
