I picked up a Substance/Transit combo from a shop, I'm not going to say who yet, if at all. I don't want to slam anyone without giving them a chance to redeem.

Anyway, I got my boxes today, I unpack the board and right on the insert it says Blem. Kind of urks me right off the get-go, because I wasn't told it was a blem. But no big deal, my wife's Diva is a blem and has no visible issues. I get the board all the way out of the packing and yikes, the edges are all jacked up. The top and bottom outter layer dont even meet on most of the board. And some spots, there is a huge gap. You can see what I am talking about below.

I'm looking for opinions on how bad this is, I am feeling pretty screwed at the moment. Thanks in advance for the input.

Shocked

I got a blem and the only thing wrong with it was the graphics were slightly faded.

Rhawn, So you paid full price, and recieved a blem? I would get in contact with the shop, they probably just accidentally sent that one.

Is the board completely sealed? Or are those spots that the graphics are missing actually holes in the resin? I don't think that board even qualifies as a "B" class blem and most shops won't stock anything other then A's and B's.

The shop should have no problem taking that back... I'm assuming you bought it online though?

I wouldn't say full price, it was a good deal on an 06. I put a bid on the same board on Ebay, but lost. The 'bid not accepted' message said give a call straight to the shop. Which I did and later bought a package. I have since gone back and looked on Ebay and the auction states there is a small cosmetic imperfection. But that didnt come up when I called and bought the package. If it were a blem like my Fish or my Wife's Diva, where I can't really pick out the blem, I wouldn't really care.

I wouldn't say the board is sealed, no. The top and bottom layers don't meet on most of the board, and the core is in rough shape as well, small holes, etc.

I took another good look at it and the bottom is delaminated on each end for about 20 inches or so, and the middle where its not delam'd seems to have bubbles. lolol

I did buy it online, and I've talked to the shop, sent the pics. Waiting to hear back.

I have bought 1 or 2 blems in my past and they were barely noticable cosmetic imperfections.

The board you got is jacked! Hopefully the seller will make it right for you and send you a much better condition blem. If not I would out them.

Rhawn, That is an 06 142 Substance right? I have the same board, I just bought it on Ebay about 2 months ago. My board looks just like yours around the edges, but it wasn't listed as a blem. Mine isn't delamming or anything but now I'm kind of worried.

What shop did you buy from? I bought from Surf and Offshore Sports in NJ. Let us know what happens.

Man thats a pretty banged up board.

I assume blem means its a slightly used board or it has some imperfection on it, right? If so, where is a good place to get one? I bought my snowboard this way for about half price cause it had a small scratch but definitely worth the deal (since I just got it re-waxed and it was good as new;) ).

I've talked with the shop and they are taking care of me. A replacement board is going out today, as well as a shipping label to ship this one back. Quite a relief. Sucks, but they are taking care of it, so I'm not gonna slam them.

nfn, I dont think the edges are ever perfect, but this one has large pieces of exposed core. Not to mention the board is delaminated on the bottom down to the cloth.

The guy that helped me out at the shop shared the same thoughts as me, how in the world that board ever made it out the door of the factory or their shop is a mystery.

FLWake, I think many of the '06 boards on ebay are blems. If they are super cheap, more than likely thats why.

They probably didn't check the box when it got in from the factory(I know I probably wouldn't) I'm surprised that made it out of Liquid Force's doors, must of started happening inside the box.

That blem is too bad a blem for me. I am ok with lighter/darker or misalignment or even wrong graphics but structural blems to me are too much. I need to know the board will ride as designed and last - cosmetics are not important.

or is it purely cosmetic

I don't see how delamination even got through the QA process far enough to be considered a blem. I don't know the board production industry aga all, but I would suspect that exposed core and / or delamination would destine a board for the rejects pile, never to reach a customer.

Glad to hear that the shop is taking care of you.

There are different grades of stock.
It is indicated on the id badge or stamped into the board

A being top notch full price
B being less but can sell for full price and
C being a blem

Look on the warning label or look for the imprint

To me that looks like a shop board that has been demoed some places will sell the demo and just call it a Blem.
Call both the shop and the company keep it civil and be direct.
If the shop is not helpful ask the LF to have the rep in your area call you.

If you need any help let me know

A blem should just be a cosmetic flaw. That was not a blem and should be scrapped or used as a bench. Blems do not affect riding. Almost every product has a blemish policy. Appliances are called "scratch and dent". It effects the looks but not performance. Most sponsored riders who aren't on the "A" team receive blems as their comp board. Same with camps and schools. They sell them to camps at slashed prices. Glad to see it was taken care of.

Like Dave said. We bought some blems from hyperlite for demo boards in our shop and only one has a slightly noticable mark on it. Hope your new board will be ok and they don't raise the price.
