|
|
Just had a question about my now obsolete board. I bought a Blindside Sequence 141 board about 5 years ago, and think I have moved beyond what it can provide. Doing inverts are pretty simple, but it seems really heavy when it comes to 180s, ollies, and surface tricks. My friend just bought a 135 Liquide Force board that is pretty wide in the middle, and has rounded edges. He swears that he catches more air, and the tracking is a lot easier. Does anyone have any experience with my board or the new fatter boards? What do you all think about fatter boards as opposed to longer boards?

Well shorter boards are exceptional when it comes to spins. The only good thing about big long boards is that you can get more air (supposedly) and land softer.
But a shorter board WILL be MUCH easier to spin...

I have a LF Fish which is one of the "fatter" boards. I think it's a lot of fun. I seem to edge better with it than with any of my other boards. And like Blindside_137 said, it's easier to spin than my other boards. I can't speak as to how it handles inverts...mostly because I can't do any inverts

What Blindside 137 said is not entirely true. It's not longer boards that give you more lift and softer landings, but larger boards. that's why many board companies are making boards with a wider profile, so you can still get the surface area on the water without adding a lot of weight at the ends of your board, which can inhibit your spinning. Liquide force has 3 boards with fuller profiles, in varying degrees. The Fish is the most drastic, Lf claims you can ride it 10 cm short, because it's so wide. In my experience, though, it doesn't ride like any other board out there. not better or worse, just different, and takes some getting used to. The Shane is the middle candidate, LF claims you can ride it 3 cm short, but it also takes a little adjusment to get in the groove with this board. The watson is the other, Lf recommends riding it 2cm short, and is the easiest to adjust to out of the 3. I too came from a 141 blinside, and the watson picked up right where that board leaves off. similar in terms of edge hold, but pops better, lands softer, and picks up speed quicker.
